Saya van Hildebrand

Apothecary from the Shield Lords Chapter; the Swift Arrow of Battle Sword

Saya van Hildebrand

Description

Bio

Name:
Saya van Hildebrand (Sah-yah vaan Hill-deh-brand)

Title:
4th Company Apothecary Saya van Hildebrand of the Shield Lords

Homeworld:
Saya, unlike many of his Battle-Brothers, was born during their imprisonment inside the Warp after the destruction of their homeworld of Inari (In-are-Ee). His home, the Battle-Barge Hildebrand, was one of the splinter force that escaped near the Eye of Terror. The vessel had been converted over the years into a space worthy biodome, where he trained as a doctor. Strangely, he was born female, but a few months after birth a freak Warp accident left him male. Over time, he learned the art of treating Space Marines, surpassing the Hildebrand ’s few Apothecaries. He was selected as a Neophyte shortly after their splinter group rejoined the Imperium and was regrouped into a Space Marine Chapter, and was trained by fellow Shield Lords who fought their brothers in the Horus Heresy.

Personality:
Saya can seem a bit… spacey in comparison to most Adeptus Astartes, possibly because of his time in the Warp. He approaches patients with a curiosity, often employing different treatment styles; from planetary to archaic, improvised to near heretical. He’s friendly, although the damage to his vocal chords caused by the Betchers Gland often causes his speech to seem out of place. He’s not opposed to, and often does, take Xenos and Heretics apart on the battlefield in order to observe the differences in physiology. Often times, threats or sarcasm goes right over his head.

Why were you selected for the Deathwatch?:
On yet another mission near the Eye of Terror, Saya and the 4th Company found themselves fighting a force of mutated Orks. The Orks were able to beat the 4th Company back to the planet’s capital. Saya, who had been warned several times against his practice of operating on the enemy on the battlefield, developed a toxin that caused the Orks to mutate in self-destructive ways; literally. After that battle, Saya was never warned against his practice, and later sent to the Deathwatch to better serve against Xenos.

What does the Deathwatch mean to you?:
As a Shield Lord, the Deathwatch is a place to best earn the trust of the Imperium. In addition, Saya sees the Deathwatch as a place to learn more about Xeno—and fellow Astartes—physiology. With the knowledge gained from the Deathwatch, he hopes to find a way to delay the demise of his people until they are entrusted with an already inhabited planet.

What do you desire?:
To study (I.E. operate on) as many Xenos and Mutants as he can, to earn the trust of the Imperium, and to advance his understanding of medical science.

What do you hate?:
People who give orders without looking at the long term effects, or who give orders with the knowledge of how futile it is. And daemons of all kinds, especially those related to Ehrennin.

What song best represents you Space Marine?:
Prelude of Battle, from Romancing Saga: Minstrels Song
