Backstory

The Gae Assail, or “Lightning Spear” was another treasure of the Tuatha De Danann. Its home was the now lost underground city of Gorias. The spear is said to have been used by Lugh against the Fomorians in the Second Battle of Magh Tuireadh.

The spear is massive, with a stout shaft of dark wood tipped with a blade as long as a man’s forearm. The spearhead is wreathed with fire that never burns out nor damages the spear. The flame can only be doused by holding the tip under water. Once the tip is removed from water it instantly re-ignites.

It is said that this spear will “call” a great warrior to wield it when war is coming to the land. Some druids believe that the Spear nature might be more as an instigator of wars than responsive to coming wars, but it is always known to appear when great wars are brewing. And the person whom the spear chooses to wield it inevitably being involved in the conflict.
