Backstory
These idols are made by practitioners of the arcane arts in order to better communicate with each other over long distances. Each idol is of a small humanoid figure huddle in a ball upon itself. When the caster with whom the Idol is bonded to casts his magic upon the idol, the wooden idol becomes animate and stands, allowing the divination magics to flow through it. Most arcanist who have received an Idol from another caster tend to kept the idol in a sound proof or lead box so as to keep unwanted communication from interrupting their work.
