Justice Beyond Law

Hudson City, 2063 A.D.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. Despite mind-boggling advancements in technology which has brought the entire world together through a pervasive wireless computer-communications network, despite medical breakthroughs which conquered injury and disability which would have crippled the stricken, despite development of power sources that brought civilization back from the brink of catastrophe, Hudson City remains the Urban Abyss. Megacorporations control undreamed of wealth from the tops of gleaming towers of glass and steel, their masters living above any regulation save that which governs the acquisition of wealth. The rich enjoy luxuries which surpass the dreams of Avarice, living lives unconcerned with and untouched by the inconveniences of laws which their wealth places them well above. Criminals, free from the threat of Police and Prison, prey upon the poor and weak without restraint.

Law is enforced only on behalf of those who can afford it.

Justice has been lost, become a legend, or a fable told to children, as fanciful as gold hidden beneath rainbows, or trees which bear magic fruit.

But some remember that Justice never dies. Some still know that no one is above the scales she holds. A precious few still hear the call of people whose only hope is that Justice will be done for them.

Because when the Law fails, when the Courts fail, when the Police fail… only the Vigilant remain to protect the weak, to avenge the innocent, and punish the guilty.
