Bio

Yaaryar’s childhood was common and unremarkable. A son of farmers he felt the calling of the warrior within himself at an early age. As soon as he was old enough he joined the Kaer Uqbar militia and never looked back. He has spent his entire adult life in the service of his clan and the militia giving proud service to both until recent years. Just months after his 30 year honor ceremony, in which he received his wooden buckler of achievement, his mind began showing signs of his advanced age. He was still in peak physical shape and could best opponents half his age in the practice arena but he often forgot where he was going or people’s names.

Yaaryar began to notice his mind failing him and the depression it caused lead him to drink to excess with growing frequency. During one particularly rowdy celebration at Troll Tower he lost his balance climbing the tower and broke his right leg and hip. After several months of medical tending he was able to return to his post but the damage never fully healed. He since requires the assistance of the crutch in order to move fully.

At an age when most soldiers were either dead or retired Yaaryar continued training. He spent hours modifying his combat style to take advantage of the large steel crutch he constructed for himself. Because of his medical status he was reassigned as a training sergeant for new militia recruits. The recruits respect the old troll for his knowledge and skills but they also have made up several, less than flattering, names for him along the way.

Yaaryar has no real family or political connections but he does have a reputation in the Kaer. There aren’t many who don’t know his name or have a story to tell about him. He makes no apologies for his gruff demeanor and lively recreation. His days of caring about his rank and status are long since past. He continues on doing the only things he knows how. He is and always will be a loyal soldier of the Kaer.
