Scaglia is the latest member of his family to serve the sovereign duke of Savoy as an ambassador. Witty, urbane, a patron of the arts (a close friend of Peter Paul Rubens), and given to intrigues in the furtherance of his duke's dynastic ambitions, Scaglia (b. 1592) is a well-known and respected figure in the courts of Europe.
