Bio

Alphonse-Louis (b. 1582) is the older brother of Cardinal Richelieu. He refused the bishophric of Luçon, a title long held by the family, choosing the life of a Carthusian monk instead, serving as prior of Bompas. On becoming first minister of France, the Cardinal persuaded his brother to accept the title of Archbishop of Aix. Alphonse-Louis is also abbot of Saint Victor in Marseille.
