Bio

The de Gondi family has produced many bishops and cardinals, and Jean-François (b. 1584) is the third member of his family to serve as the prelate of Paris, succeeding his uncle and his brother in the post. He is the first archbishop of Paris following the city’s elevation to an archdiocese in 1622.
