The daughter of a Parisian wine merchant, Melchior du Bois, Jeanne is a blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty, like her Spanish mother. Vain and petulant when she fails to get her way, Jeanne expects to marry well — after all, her father is wealthy, a member of the wine merchants guild, and an officer of the Black Cross — but she’s wants more than being married off to some ancient nobleman with a title and little else, so she’s on the lookout for a more suitable prospect than one of her father’s business partners.
