A Gascon born in Oloron-Sainte-Marie, the son of an old military family but one ennobled only in 1607 by the purchase of a seignurie, the comte de Troisvilles (b. 1598) entered the royal army as a young cadet, and by dint of his great skill as a soldier, a duelist, and a courtier, rose to command the King’s Musketeers by 1624.
Despite his relative youth, Tréville, as he known by most, commands the unshakeable loyalty of his men.
