Zanne grew up on his uncles farm on the fringes of society. When his Uncle could no longer afford to pay his taxes and debts, Zanne and his cousin Faldon, were taken as payment and put into military service. Zanne excelled, enjoying the rgorous training and lifestyle, but Faldon (ever a sickly child) failed miserably. Were it not for Zanne’s protection the other recruits would have beaten him to death – instead Zanne fought them off and accidentaly killed one with his bare hands.
Zanne and Faldon were sentenced to the slave-ships, when the accident happened, Faldon didnt survive. Zanne vowed vengeance against his Uncle for letting Faldon be taken in the first place, and will always try to protect those weaker than him and those in his care.
When the Ettins ambushed the slavers, Zanne had to convince the dwarf priest (Horgar) to escape with the small group of escaping slaves rather than remaining behind to delay pursuit.
