The Grand Conjunction Job

The Grand Conjunction Job

It began as joke on twitter. I announced that I was thinking about running Leverage at OrcCon 2012. My friends, knowing my love for Ravenloft, made a joke about how the Mark would be Strahd Von Zarovich. I knew it was just a joke but it hit a chord. On reflection it seemed to be a perfect fit. I rapidly imagined Ireena and her brother as Clients turning to the local thieves’ guild for help in retrieving their stolen holy symbol.

So, I set out to adapt the original I6 Ravenloft module as a Leverage scenario. It turned out all I had to do was extract the named NPCs, identify the significant Locations and Items and throw the rest away. I also customized the Leverage roles: Mastermind => Guild Master, Grifter => Scoundrel, Thief => Rogue, Hitter => Thug & Hacker => Loremaster.

The game went better that I could have hoped for. It had started as joke but the result was probably the best Ravenloft game I’ve ever played. (You can read the brief summary on the Adventure Log).

The game was so inspiring that I intend to keep running my LeverageLoft adaptation in pseudo-campaign form. The current plan is work my way through The Grand Conjunction modules converting each one to Leverage and running it at the local convention as an open game.

This would be the schedule:

  • Feast of Goblyns (Gamex 2012)
  • Ship of Horror (Gateway 2012)
  • Touch of Death (OrcCon 2013)
  • Night of the Walking Dead (Gamex 2013)
  • From the Shadows (Gateway 2013)
  • Roots of Evil (OrcCon 2014)

It’s been a long time since I looked at these modules and they may not adapt as gracefully as the original Castle Ravenloft one did. I will continue to post the results of games here in the Adventure Log.
