Merrik Lee is the eldest son of a half Roses, half Soon union. His father was a diplomat to the Soon empire in Kaieng who married a Soon woman. Shortly after their daughter Corine was born, Merrik’s father and mother were abducted by Soon extremists who planned to kill them. Nothing else is known of his parents.
Merrik and his sister fled back to Roses where they stayed with his dad’s family. Merrik grew up hating the Soon empire for what it did to his family and its constant threats against the trading federation of Roses, Sparkle, Whisper, and Nolani. When he was old enough to look the part, he enlisted in a mercenary company known as Fox Company, and served in a number of small skirmishes and odd jobs over the next decade.
Merrik had a brilliant military mind and rose quickly through the ranks. He studied with the company historian, and learned any skills anyone had to teach. By the time he was 25 he was the leader of Fox Company, after the previous leader retired.
Merrik’s entire squad was wiped out during a massive earthquake which hit Kaineng, ripping a giant canyon in the middle of the city. Almost all of his men died trapped in their barracks with the doors barricaded, others died from horrific wounds in the following days, and more during their escape from the city and the long trek across the wilderness as they were harassed by goblin outriders. Merrik saw the remnants destroyed and raced on.
Merrik led the horses loaded with the company treasury to Tower’s Edge, where they were stolen by bandits escaping with a captured Leroy. At this point, Merrik joined the Light Warriors on their quest to retrieve their friend, and journeyed with them to Roses and Sparkle.
Merrik left the group upon retrieving Leroy and the horses loaded down with the company treasury, intending to go give out disbursements to the widows of Fox Company.
