Mad Cowtown
Ashlynn Reid

Description

Bio

Phase One: Ashlynn is the child of a Sidhe Lord, and a mortal woman, Beth, whom he kidnapped and kept as his “pet”. Although everyone believed the woman dead when she disappeared one summer’s eve, her husband Owen refused to accept it, and sought out the services of a certain supernatural detective, who tracked her down to the Summer Court and set up negotiations with the Lady. Desperate to get his wife back, Owen offered the Court their first-born child in exchange for Beth … and may have made further promises. The faeries accepted the deal, and Owen thought that he and Beth would live happily ever after, once they were able to forget what happened.

Unfortunately, once they returned to the mortal world, Beth did not feel as if she had come home. Her time in the faerie court, the glamours under which she was placed, had changed her, and she secretly longed to return to the Nevernever. A few weeks later, Beth discovered that she was pregnant, and they both knew it was not Owen’s. They both pretended that they were okay, that they were making it work, but it put a considerable strain on their marriage.

Unable to live in the mortal world any longer, unsure whether her husband still loved her, Beth killed herself, when Ashlynn was only a few months old. She hung herself from an apple tree in the garden, hoping perhaps to return to the faerie court in death.

Her “father” tried to raise Ashlynn as well as he could, but his heart was broken, she was not truly his, and he was cool and distant. She grew up without knowing any real affection, and thinking that it was normal. When Ashlynn turned thirteen and the Summer Knight came to collect on his debt, he found it easier than he had imagined to give her to the faerie court….

Phase Aspect: The Rash Oath

Phase Two: For the first time in her life, Ashlynn experienced warmth, and care, and something akin to love. It bound her more securely to the Summer Court than any oath her father could have made. For three years, the faeries provided her with the attention she never had, and taught her about certain innate abilities that she has. She was enthralled by the power they offered her, and did not even notice the subtle changes taking place within her and causing her to become less human, until she catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror and notices that her once-brown eyes have become bright green.

Phase Aspects: Windows to the Soul

Phase Three: On Ashlynn’s thirteenth birthday, the Summer Knight appeared on her doorstep in order to escort her to the Summer Court via the Franklin Park Conservatory. She was terrified and felt very alone, as her father handed her a duffel bag and explained she was no longer going to be living with him. As they were leaving her home, though, her mother’s ghost appeared and tried to stop them….

Phase Aspect: The Past is Prologue
