My childhood is but a blur, a thing that happened all so many years ago. I can recall little of it now since I have given myself to the Dawnflower Saranrae. I know that I was born in Kelmarane, but recall nothing of my childhood, or my mother. I do know that my father somewhat clumsily raised me in Katapesh as best he could, but obviously he knew what I was. What I could become. And he was scared.
I recall being raised by him in the city until he was apparently murdered. I remember running for my life and ended up befriending a woman named Heleen. I recall a group of children that accepted me as their own and eventually ended up being their leader for a time, before being struck down by a masterful Alchemist.
I remember great things about this man; although I’m not sure I appreciated those things at that time. I recall learning the ways of alchemist, but those skills appear somewhat lost in time.
I remember a young Gnome, Nini who I helped rescue from the authorities and how she was a misguided creature, lost without her brother. I sympathise with the young gnome, comparing her place in life to my own and how I would be accepted for what I had become.
I also remember learning of how I was not what I seemed, and that there lay secrets in my past that I had to discover. I remember bringing Nini with me as she too had a connection to that of the desert and to that of Kelmarane. I remember venturing to Solku in search of answers and of being offered a job which now appears to have led me to my destiny, whatever that is.
I recall almost losing my life to the foul vampiric beast, an act which soon led me to the path that I have now been chosen. I recall my new friends, Kay’enn, Vash, Ding and of course my old friend Nini. I also recall the foul fiend that struck me a mortal blow, which felled me in combat. I would not allow that to occur again.
I also recall the creature in the tombs of the tower in the hills who knew my name. But how could that be? My name is Khalid, and not Vardishal. And yet somehow, I am Vardishal. I somehow recall the Great War over 200 years ago, and the battles that I faced in the name of my master, Nefeshti. But from that life, I recall very little.
But that was not my life, but somehow, it was.
