William comes to Gideon just after the attacks begin, for unknown reasons. Some fear at first that he is the Plague Doctor, that he is investigating as a cover up. He is the picture of a southern gentleman from Charleston. Always dressed in a fine suit. He is intelligent on a level matching Francis, and even eventually finds himself sympathizing with the DR. but has too much respect for law and order to not capture him in the end. His only confidant is Mary, The widow of his cousin Mark, the first victim killed in town, and the only real medical doctor.
