Through the years, I’ve used many different rules sets; and recently very nearly created my own to publish (grand scheme…flopped like a dead fish in a skillet!)…but I have at last found what it is I’ve been looking for: Hackmaster.
I would have never thought that that title would be associated with my world, but it is the blend of things that I have been looking for:
So similar to Advanced Dungeons and Dragons! This is a big sell for me!
Combat is fluid and easy to work without much effort.
Easily adaptable magic system that gives wizards lots of magic outside of the usual Vancian System (which I like, but hey…Hackmaster has magic down!)…and Clerics actually have PRAYERS now…and not all clerics have the same spells because not all gods would answer the same prayers right!
Monster Stat-blocks are solid and easy…PERIOD!
And perhaps the most important to me: currently published and supported by a company I have a lot of respect for! Having a game that is just now coming into its own and has lots more on the way makes Hackmaster really nice to me.
More is good about it (Knights exist only at level 6!); but over all, I’m happy with the new mechanics behind it all…so…
