Born into a very poor family in a land where his people where shunned and the arcane arts regarded generally as demonic, Maelon had showed magical prowess from a very young age, and so, by the time he was only six years old, Maelon’s parents had spent their last turnip to send him far away from the village where he had been born, partly for his own safety, but mainly so he could study under the renowned wizard Lyrall.
During his years of being educated in all things magic, Maelon had showed a disregard for rules in favour of his own personal morals, although he would more often than not do his best to look out for other people, being fiercely loyal to what few friends he made.
After a time, Lyrall had decided he could teach Maelon no more about magic and let him go into the wide world after presenting him with his toad familiar, Pugwash, and enough money to get him by, as well as Lyrall’s own quarterstaff as both a memento and to keep him safe. Naturally, the first thing Maelon did was return home, but he was only to find both of his parents had been killed by marauding bandits. This left him distraught, and for several years Maelon could only wander the wilderness, grieving the loss of his parents as he tried to find a place where he could settle down, until one day, when he was in the tavern of some small nowhere town looking to see if he could find any work, he overheard a pair of retired adventurers laughing and joking about all sorts of strange and wonderful things, people and places. His curiosity was piqued, and so he asked the pair to tell him stories of the time they’d spent travelling. Maelon now suddenly felt he had found his calling, and so journeyed for… months? years? he couldn’t tell anymore, until eventually, he arrived in The Land, in the town of Mithil Stonedown, to find some sort of town meeting taking place…
