Identical twin to Lissome.

Lithe tamped down the rising urge to howl like a mabari warhound as she listened to her father drone on in one of his endless lectures on the etiquette and discipline of being a proper mage. She had heard it all countless times before, each lecture an exact replica of the last. Outwardly, she appeared to be just exactly as expected – rigid, formal, well-trained and in control. She excelled at the scholarly aspects of magic and loved spending hours on end reading and learning and practicing her craft. She was a model student without reproach, exemplary in all she did making her father and other teachers proud.

But deep down, in some dark corner of her soul, there lurked a blazing inferno waiting to be unleashed.

Lithe had had fleeting glimpses of this lurking passion starting in her eighteenth year. On her eighteenth birthday her father only acknowledged her coming of age by lecturing her for four hours instead of two which frustrated her so much she’d gone to a secluded clearing far from the sight of the tower and fried anything that moved with fireball after fireball. Releasing her tight control gave her such unadulterated joy that, when she laughed out loud for the first time since being a child, it shocked her back into control. She had released her control on a few occasions since, but never with such total lack of regard for the fear of how much she enjoyed it and on days like today, when the Circle responsibilities began to pile up and her father demonstrated yet again he had no faith in her ability to control her magic impulses, she would feel this alarming urge for the wild abandon again.

Just as she began to hit her limit in tolerance the lecture changed along with her father’s tone. He began to speak of her new role. The Circle, without his knowledge, has decided that Lithe needed to expand her horizons. They believed she was too wound up in book knowledge and felt she needed to round out her education with some practical experience. They had decided to send her with some adventurers that needed her type of expertise. She was leaving the tower.

When her father was done, Lithe was sent to start packing for the trip. She packed a light backpack and only on a final impulse did she add the only truly personal item she owned. An odd little gem that looked like a half of a whole, the bloody color unnerved her and the magic vibrations it set off often made her hand tingle. It meant something but she did not know what and didn’t like to think of it often but before she could have second thoughts she shoved it to the bottom of her bag. Squaring her shoulders she walked out the door without a look back.
