Tobin is a real Bastard.
Not to say he is a bad fellow, or hard to get along with, he is, literally, a bastard. His mother was a commoner, and his father a noble. She would always tell stories of the manor, and the family holdings, and what a kind person his father was.
Well, things aren’t always as they seem. His father would not acknowledge him. They were provided for by “mysterious benefactors” and they didn’t lead a hard life, but Tobin’s mother wanted more for him. She wanted him to one day claim his birthright as a noble and be able to stand apart.
Over the years, she searched for papers, a journal, any evidence she could that Tobin’s father was who she claimed. One day, she found it. An engraved golden locket that he had commissioned be made for his son before he had decided it was not worth the scandal.
She showed it to him, and he agreed to give the boy what he deserved, he just asked for a few weeks to prepare everything. She happily agreed.
Unfortunately, fate had its way of playing cruel tricks on people. While travelling back to the city, their caravan was attacked by a Dragon. Tobin was 12 years old at the time. His mother was killed, and the dragon took all the gold and treasure with it. Tobin survived the attack, hiding under a wagon.
Tobin was found by a guard partol. When asked who his parents where, he told them his mother was dead, and that he was on the way to see his father. He named him.
The guards didn’t know what to think, but they did take the boy to the city and ask the father about it. He claimed to not know the boy. Tobin was livid with anger. That damned Dragon had taken away his only shot at living the good life. Since he was denied his rightful name, he took to calling himself Dragonsbane.
He took what jobs he could, and ended up working in the forest, and hunting in his spare time. He read everything he could on Dragons, vowing to one day slay the one that had killed his mother, and maybe, just maybe, he could find the proof he needed.
10 years later, he decided to join the expedition.
