Rumbles of Thundarr

Well, Jon has succumbed to the urge to run a role playing game again and hopefully you will want to be one of the guinea pigs as he tries out new settings and systems.

Rumbles of Thundarr!!!:

The not-quite-near-but-not-too-far future: Several people volunteer for an experiment in cryogenic suspension techniques. The technology is being developed for the space program and the pay is good, especially for not doing anything for three years. Sure there was a waiver you had to sign saying your relatives couldn’t sue the university if you died, but so what. Two years into the experiment, something happened to the world. One of the surviving scientists, unwilling to awaken a group of people into the apocalyptic disaster the earth had become, reprogrammed the machines to continue the freeze indefinitely and sealed the underground lab before he departed, intending to return or to send someone when conditions improved. No one ever returned. Powered by the University’s fusion reactor the machines continued their automated cycle for… decades, centuries… eons? Finally the machines detected a fatal error in the power supply and began the wake cycle.

You have awakened into a lonely tomb full of stale air, only a few others have survived the long sleep and all have damaged memories; only fragments of your personal histories remain. Outside the lab is strange world, mutated by disaster and the passage of time. Will you, the last of homo sapiens be able to survive in this strange future?

Notes: This is an adventure game set in a weird future; notable influences include Jack Kirby’s “Kamandi” comics, the Saturday morning cartoon show “Thundarr the Barbarian”, the Planet of the Apes films and the varied writings of Edgar Rice Burroughs. The tone will be over the top and a little silly. Just tell yourself it’s just a game, you should really just relax.
