Background

1103-1203 AY

Nimlar Sumel was born in the capital of Azatharia, Azathare, in 1103 AY, to the noble house of Sumel, one of the leading noble houses of the kingdom. For the first hundred years of his life, Nimlar grew up as the son of a nobleman, getting whatever he wanted and living a sheltered existence within the rich district of the city.

Nimlar was trained for his entire life in the ways of the ranger by his mentor, Kylian Dre’Ath, a renowned Ranger of the Wood. Master Dre’Ath taught Nimlar all he knows about the wild, but most importantly, Dre’Ath taught him about morals and kindness. It was because of the work of this one man that changed Nimlar from a snobby rich kid to a courageous warrior for good.

Growing up, Nimlar had many playmates, all other elven children of rich families, which he spent most of his childhood with, playing games and creating a bond with each other. One of these playmates, an elven girl named Veronna Evalum, was his best friend throughout his childhood. They shared everything with each other, and each always seemed to know what the other was thinking.

When they grew up, they began to drift away from each other, and realized that Nimlar was a boy and Veronna was a girl, which usually happens when children grow up.

When Nimlar was about one hundred, a sign of maturity for elves, he began to spend time with Veronna once again, and the two started to like each other. Things were going very well between them when something happened to change all that.

1203-1230 AY

It was about this time that Nimlar began to notice the oppression of the poor in Azatharia, and began to see the corruption in the nobility. He witnessed the same pattern over and over again: the nobles taxed the poor, the poor could not work, and so the nobles became angry and taxed them more. Slowly, Nimlar began to fight against corruption in the nobility and the royal family.

He began to speak out more and more against the wrong doing, and, even though Veronna advised him against it, went against the laws of the kingdom to defend the poor. By this time, every nobleman in the kingdom hated Nimlar because of his saintly actions (which decreased their wealth).

1230-1234 AY

In 1230 AY, Nimlar brought together a group of like-minded elves, mostly a rag-tag party of brigands and thieves, and led a full rebellion against the government of Azatharia. They were slaughtered.

On February 22, 1231 AY, the king of Azatharia arrested Nimlar Sumel, brought him before the court, and pronounced him guilty of treason and grand theft. Nimlar, in an amazing feat of genius, managed to escape his hanging, but was forced to flee the country to escape the wrath of the king.

He ended up in the Amedio, doing mercenary work to try to slowly gain enough money to hire a mercenary army to go back and free his country from oppression…
