Description

Bio

Lewis Turner lived a fairly average life in Metro City, until age 7 when his house burned to the ground, with his parents inside it. Both the Police and the Legion of Justice were never able to discover what caused the fire. After that, Lewis was placed in the Sisters of Perpetual Superheroics Orphanage, and while life wouldn’t be the same for him again, he continued to live. The staff was friendly enough, and most of the children wanted to be his friend. The only real exception was Charles Feng, a kid who seemed to love making everyone miserable.

It was when he was growing up that Lewis discovered his power to create Illusions, both around him and over himself. He first tried to use them to make movies, after the orphanage staff banded together to get the children a video camera for Christmas. However, the images he created never showed up on camera, something which made the subsequent movies the orphans filmed not quite as amazing as Lewis wanted them to be. Still, it was fun and helped Lewis to bond with everyone else.

Lewis also possessed a skilled mind, and he won several scholarships for film which got him through his school years and eventually nabbed him a BA in Cinematography from Chuckman Community College. He went on to work for a local news studio, doing the camerawork for the reporters that covered events of superheroic nature (and getting kidnapped once or twice. Comes with the business). He also volunteered at the orphanage where he grew up whenever he had a chance, wanting to help others as he had been helped.

Then, the Vortex happened, and Metro City was thrown into Chaos. Not long after the vortex, Charles, now calling himself Feng Shui, returned to the orphanage only to burn it down, claiming it made the city look better. Lewis was able to use illusionary versions of himself to lead most of the kids to safety, but a bitter seed had taken ahold of him. He blamed Feng Shui, of course, but he also held the only remaining Legion member, Foursight, accountable for the fire. After all, since she had the power of prophecy, shouldn’t she have seen it coming? In time, he began to blame her for more things around the city (eventually including her as the one who caused the fire at his house so many years ago. Hatred has a way of feeding itself like that). He evacuated the kids he did rescue to a warehouse on the edge of Little San Juan. Unfortunately, the breakdown of law and order was a factor in his old station shutting down, and you need a lot of food to feed 6 kids. So Lewis did the only thing left for him to do; robbery.

For a little over 4 months now, several stores, banks, and penthouses have been robbed by a mysterious gang. They never appear the same way; sometimes they’re all in clown masks, sometimes in long robes, and one time they robbed a video store all dressed as wookiees. The only real similarity in all of the robberies is that all of security cameras in the area are shot out by the leader before the robbery begins in earnest. They’re known as the Chameleon Gang around the city, and their leader has called himself the Wraith.

After the Defeat of the Killer Queens

After being thrust into the media spotlight following Ziggy Stardust’s failed plan, Lewis found that he couldn’t make money on robberies any more, since he was scrutinized much more than before. Luckily, he found a new source of income; extremely inflated speaking prices. Charging about $300 per interview, Lewis managed to continue to get money for the orphans under his care.

Of course, he found that he didn’t have as much time to spend with the kids any more. And when he finally did manage to get a break to see them, he found that his worst nightmare had come true; they had been targeted by someone. Reina and Tim had gone missing, making the next series of events intensely personal for the former criminal.

After the Chessmaster Incident

The children being targeted by the Neo Dread Hand during this crisis was a real eye-opener for Lewis. The Warehouse on the Edge of Little San Juan was obviously not as safe as he thought it was, and he immediately began looking for more options to safeguard them.

The answer to this problem was found with Lewis’s former foe, The Mariner. Swallowing his pride, Lewis asked for Jonah’s assistance in setting up a new safe-house for the orphans. The industrialist agreed, and the for past few weeks has been renovating a former lab for that purpose. This was the state of affairs when the Wyld Hunt was announced…

After the End of the Wyld Hunt

After the end of the Wyld Hunt, Lewis managed to get a major bonus after he was hired by Jonah to use his illusions to enhance his Atlantean Artifacts Expo (more like he bothered the CEO until said CEO just gave in). He’s spent the last few weeks among the fish and artifacts at the Tobias Lethbridge Memorial Aquarium, preparing for the presentation. A conflict with the Atlantean Kingdom was the last thing on his mind…

After the Atlantean War

The War with Atlantis had many repercussions, the most important being that Lewis learned he had family in The Descendent (who was, in fact, HIS descendent). The next few weeks were a mix of experiences, which included becoming a national icon, further developing his powers of illusion, and signing on with Dr. Sweet of the Rad Studies Department for certain Rad Experiments (specifically, are Rad images enough to produce RADiation, or is there something more?).

Of course, being in the spotlight didn’t sit well with Lewis, who always worried that his past crimes would somehow impact the life he’d built for the orphans and himself. His past would finally catch up with him though, in a way he could never have predicted…
