Welcome to Arkham!
“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents… some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age.”
H.P. Lovecraft, in “The Call of Cthulhu”
The year is 1928, and it is the height of the Roaring Twenties. Flappers dance til dawn in smoke-filled speakeasies drinking alcohol supplied by rum runners and the mob. It’s a celebration to end all celebrations in the aftermath of the War to end all Wars.
Yet a dark shadow grows in the city of Arkham. A recent spate of gruesome murders has the city gripped in fear. The victims come from all walks of life, apparently chosen at random. No-one is safe. The press eagerly report the failings of the police as they struggle to find the killer, while the halls of the Sanitarium echo with the cries of madmen. They rant and shriek about ancient beings that writhe at the gates between worlds, lurking in the emptiness beyond space and time. Their alien will, to make our world their ruinous dominion.
Against this backdrop of fear and despair, stand a handful of dogged investigators. Will they alone be enough to drive the horrors from the streets, and free Arkham from the icy grip of terror?…
