Sorin Ivanescu is one of the last remaining descendants of a mercenary clan, though his parents would prefer he was unaware of the fact. Constantin (Sorin’s father) retired to Fairwell years before, and avoids discussing the subject of being from elsewhere in front of Sorin. He attempted to settle down into the life of a merchant, though he would occasionally perform some contract work for villagers- such as ridding a farmer of a den of wolves who were killing his livestock.

As a child Sorin spent a lot of time in the company of his uncle, Mayor Talvor Whistmoor, being groomed to take over the job after the mayor’s retirement. This was his parents’ idea, hoping that it would appeal to him and keep him from getting into the ‘family business’. He took to the lessons well, with a cocksure grin and good looks and natural presence. Unfortunately, Sorin- like most children- idolized his father. The sense of danger and excitement that hung around Constantin’s occasional violent excusions appealed to him, and he would secretly watch his father’s martial arts practice and imitate him.

Some time after Constantin finally gave in to Richak’s cajoling to join his efforts to free the Black Water Mine, he stopped reporting in. Sorin managed to talk his uncle into allowing him to infiltrate the mine and investigate.
