The Stonehammers are a long line of craftsmen, creating many items from basic mining tools to ornate objects decorating throne rooms. Much of the family fame and wealth comes from trading with neighboring societies, creating magnificent frames for family portraits, decorative silverware for entertaining company, ornate candlesticks and sconces of various precious metals, and creating jewelry with precious stones held by intricately designed metals. In many cases these objects are made to order, with the product having symbolic importance to the history and culture of the family it will belong to.
It is in this profession that Keelig Stonehammer learned his trade. His family has great loyalty to his fellow Dwarves, and much of the profits gained through their crafts are returned as tools and decorations for the workers and clan leaders. As a result, the cathedrals, ballrooms, and public places are among the finest in the world.
Keelig himself has a particular talent for metalworking and jewel crafting, but a strong interest in the history and religions of other cultures, using them deeply in the objects he creates. He himself is a devout follower of Torag, and makes many objects bearing his symbol, which decorate the clothes he wears and his family’s living quarters. His devotion to Torag has reached a new level in the past few years, as he has been called to serve Torag as a cleric of his order. Upon his calling, his uncle, Brotun, gave him a talisman bearing the crest of Torag made of an ornate granite, fastened with a silver chain allowing the talisman to hang from the neck or wrist. It seems that there has been a history of clerics in the family from generations back, and this talisman was used by Keelig’s great-grandfather Turon on his mothers side. While it is a great honor to be chosen, it seems strange that after so many years, Torag has decided it is once again time for him to call upon his people to serve him.
The shock of this calling is wearing off over the past years, and there have been no real signs of danger on the horizon. Work has continued as usual, except now Keelig spends his free time crafting objects for the various places of warship, and giving talks to willing and interested Dwarves. His profession still has him traveling to different places to research and learn their past, but he also takes on an occasional quest to lands further away, bringing with religious objects he had finished crafting. It was at the beginning of one of these self appointed quests that Keelig’s godfather, a recently retired miner, bestowed upon him a curious ring. He said that while he was wearing the ring, from time to time a falling rock would glance off him without him feeling anything. He is convinced the ring helps and made Keeling swear to take it with him wherever he went.
