Weapon and Shield Style
1.Bash: Spend 1 pain to strike with your shield and your weapon simultaneously (roll two attacks). If your shield attack hits it does the shield’s physical defense value in base damage. Use Strength as the applicable weapon skill to determine bonus damage. The target must also roll Endurance against your weapon skill+statistic or be stunned for 1 segment. If you take additional talents in this style, add 1 segment of stun for each additional talent.
2.Shield Charge: When you are wielding a shield, you take only a -5 penalty to defense when using the Charge ability.
3.Defend: Spend 1 pain to increase your physical defense by 5 for one segment. You may spend any amount of pain at one time in this manner, and you may use this ability even AFTER an attack has been rolled to retroactively increase your defense against that attack.
1.Disengage: You may disengage from any number of opponents simultaneously by rolling Agility only against the opponent of your choice. Or, you may spend 2 pain and disengage automatically with no roll.
2.Many Opponents: Add one to the number of opponents you may Engage simultaneously. (This also means that if you use the Engage combat action, you can engage all of those opponents as part of the same action.) If you also purchase Not So Fast and/or I’m Over Here, add 1 additional opponent for each of those talents you possess.
3.Not So Fast: Opponents must spend an additional 2 pain whenever they attempt to Avoid you or disengage from you. If you purchase I’m Over Here, this additional pain increases to 3.
(2 rank) You may put up to 10 talent points into the Powerful talent. Each one grants you an additional bonus die of damage with any melee weapon.
Animal Lore: 10
Adain is the young lord, from mixed parentage: His Bann being on the border of Frelden and Orlais, his father a Frelden man, and his mother an Orlaisian. Adain feels alone, ignored by a stern aging father, who at best seems remote and unreasonably restrictive. His mother is the exact opposite, constantly pestering Adain to learn the latest Orlisian fashon, which he considers a waste of time. As an ever curious, only child, he feels restrained and chained down by his father’s desire to keep him safe, and loathes his overbearing mother.
He managed to slip away from these two extremes of parents to spend a week at a trusted family friend’s estate. On the way there, not really paying attention to where he was going, he manages to get lost in the wilderness. Only through his donkey-like stubornness and luck does he manage to survive his first encounter with the wild. The next day, a female darwf named Stennar manages to rescue him and get him to the fort.
Adain is a positive lad, getting his optimism from his mother, but he’s also head strong, getting that trait from his father. He is a bit full of himself, and refuses to trust an elf. He doesn’t really discriminate against them, but he goes out of his way to avoid any “knife-ears”.
His noble upbringing has left him with some diplomacy skill (prime for “oh f!@#” moments- he’s never had to actually negotiate anything) and at least enough skill with a sword to know which part to stick in a monster.
