Radeg
Male Human Ranger (LN)
His parents met while his father was serving a 10 year duty in the Sundabar Guard, as a scout. His mother had just finished her apprenticeship for an armorsmith and was working at small local smithy, that handled repairs for the Guard. She made him a suit of chainmail during the evenings, putting in a lot of work, in order to try and keep him safer. Radeg was born before his father’s contract ended and spent the first 8 years in the smithy, playing with the children of the other employees. His father became a trapper after completing his contract and after a couple of years, started taking Radeg along, to check the traps and teaching him to track quarry in order to find the best spots for the traps. A lot of these trips tooke several days and Radeg became accustomed to sleeping outside and being constantly on the move. A third of Sundabar’s population were dwarves, so he picked up dwarven during his childhood, from some of his friends when he was at home in the city. Both his parents were worshippers of Torm, which lead to him being one as well.
When he turned 16, he felt it his duty to join the Sundabar Guard, to protect the City and the outlying villages from orcs in the mountains. His mother than fitted his father’s old armor to him. Radeg’s experience helping his father got him a position as a tracker. His duties consisted mostly of patrolling the surrounding countryside, the road to Silverymoon and trail to Everlund and a few times the trade route to Citadel Adbar through the Upper Underdark, if the forces were stretched too thin, to have the dwarves handle all those patrols.
When his patrol found evidence of orcs, or other threats, they’d follow them to their warrens, and usually sent a couple of men to get reinforcements, if there were more than they could take out on their own. They would then continue to observe the threat, possibly ambushing smaller groups. When reinforcements arrived, they would mount an assault. Usually this involved clearing the caves they were inhabiting. Operated as pointman, and was the one who would scale a rockwall when needed and throw down the ladder, to allow the rest of his squad to get up, or sneak ahead to scout the defenses. Every 2 to 3 years, the orcs would still gather in sufficient numbers to mount an assault on Sundabar. All 4 sieges during his time were over in less than a month. During a siege he’d defend the walls and help patrol the Upperdark route to Citadel Adbar.
He became known as one of the best trackers and a good loyal soldier. He never showed much leadership, preferring to follow the lead his of lieutenant, a veteran of 20+ years, who started off as a simple patrolman. After Radeg’s 10 year contract was over, he was nonetheless offered a position as a patrol leader, in order to entice him to stay in the service. The pay raise wouldn’t have been that much more. From his talks with caravan guards he’d come in contact with, knew he could make more in a few short months, than he’d make in a year. He started to pick up jobs as a caravan guard and sometimes as a tracker for bounty hunting parties, going where the job took him.
- Worshipper of Torm. Not a fervent follower, but does say a prayer every once in a while.
- Was never particularly charming and 10 years in the guard didn’t help, leaving him with somewhat gruff manners and lack of etiquette. (Direct and to-the-point)
- Prefers to fight with a battleaxe and shield. Was trained to use a bow if needed, but is not a particularly good shot.
