The Old Days
Zuko Kota was born in the Haltan nation and grew up amongst the beast men and animals of the forest. From a young age he learned the importance of service to the nation in repelling the vicious Linowan warriors when his parents were killed in battle. Orphaned and alone, Zuko spent more of his time with the beast men of the Ironwood forests, and from them learned to move swiftly thru the trees and to push the limits of his body. He trained himself daily for the opportunity to serve in the commando units of the Haltan Guard when he became 18.
Zuko entered into the Haltan Guard and soon proved himself a talented warrior and spy capable of removing an enemy’s commanders before the day’s skirmish. It was during one such midnight raid that Zuko exalted while fleeing from a Linowan guard party that had spotted his approach. A vision of the Unconquered Sun explained the glory of Creation to him, and his place in it. For the first time Zuko questioned his life as a soldier as he began to think about how much of the world he had yet to see, and how his new existence might change his opportunities. He no longer felt burdened by the rights of duty and usefulness to his people, for now he could shape the world on a grander scale.
The people of his village and even the council of Nobles were impressed by what the addition of a Solar Exalt to their forces might mean. They asked him to stay, some even attempting to worship “the Grove’s Swift Shadow” and offer tribute, but Zuko felt a need to explore and see what else Creation had to offer. Directly petitioning Queen Chantra, Zuko promised to explore the world and seek a way to finally rid them of the Linnowan menace, while in reality he simply wants to see what is out there. Zuko left the lands with the next available caravan, and a squirrel companion; Miss Fuzzums.
Recent history
Zuko’s time with the circle has brought about many changes. Chief amongst which is the sudden realization that Miss Fuzzums was in fact the Squirrel Totem Lunar Exalt, Scarlet. Zuko was initially confused by the revelation concerning his friend and confidant, but soon came to appreciate the changes. Far away from his native land, Zuko became more and more intrigued and enamored with Scarlet as their adventures continued until he finally learned that she was, in fact, his Lunar mate, which cemented his love for her. Unfortunately, Zuko has since learned of his previous incarnation’s actions towards Scarlet and bears this knowledge with a constant sense of guilt and terror that he might one day succumb to the same insanity.
Over the past few years with his friends Zuko has had to put his desires for exploration aside for the good of the group’s necessary adventures. This has made him a bit anxious and more prone to foolhardy thefts and boyish pranks, than one of his military background might be accustomed. He fully acknowledges, and begrudgingly accepts, the huge weight that has been placed the circle’s shoulders, yet grows increasingly frustrated at their being sidetracked incessantly.
After marrying Scarlet, Zuko travelled with her to Halta to formally announce their union to his people. Afterwards, he visited with the ruling council of his homeland and has resigned as a member of their military and no longer answers to their rule. He has also been working to bring more of his people back to the Workshop to protect their base and create a larger force for when it all hits the fan.
