In the Eastern Grove Kadon and Zuko interview the survivors, with Scarlet’s story proving inconsistent with her apparent actions. Still, it’s discovered that the squirrel girls are demiurges, so they begin crafting the needed Alchemical charm. In Nexus Ioni and Mnemia learn that one of the bombs did go off and that the council has put the city on lock down. Interrogation of the prisoner reveals that their mistress’ name is Katrina, the same name Lucy used when she betrayed the Circle in Luthe. Moving to the underworld they secure the craft the attackers used to reach Nexus from Luthe, but decide to not move on Luthe just yet.

I will drop my pants – Distracting Finger Gesture Technique!

Experience: 6

Kadon creates and begins distributing demiurge puzzle boxes, but when delivering them to Nexus the Circle discovers a small incursion from the Underworld; a group placing bombs and moving on the council building. They attempt to take the councilors hostage and recover autochthonic artifacts for their unknown mistress, but Zuko distracts them long enough for Mnemia to arrive and kill all but one of them, the last they take prisoner. During the standoff Zuko learns that Scarlet is in danger, so once the council is secured Zuko and Kadon return to the Eastern Grove and learn that four of the dopplegangers were discovered, killing a significant number of people before being put down by the local lunars.

Turning their attention to Lytek, the Circle manages to convince him to start releasing the Sidereal exaltations. Still, it will be decades before the damage can begin to be undone. Turning their attention to Gaia, Kadon contacts the Design Weavers through the Eye of Autochthon and learns of a way to move through the time freeze. This involves tracking down and recovering engineers known as demiurges who can in turn craft an alchemical charm Kiera can install to bypass the freeze. Learning this informtion though has likely alerted Lucy who will almost certainly move on Chiaroscuro some time in the future.

Yeah, uh, Ioni doesn’t get to talk to people alone anymore.

Ioni returns to the Circle, speaking of Aboshi’s capture in Malfeas. To draw her back to Creation the Circle returns to the Emerald City and uses the anchor Aboshi left behind. She returns with the Overseer and Chejop Kejak. From the former prisoners they learn that the wedding between the Scarlet Empress and the Ebon Dragon is moving forward and the infernals believed they had successfully targeted Gaia with an attack of some kind. Arvia, still a creature of darkness, also allowed Mnemia’s children to take a number of prophecy drawings so that they would reach the Circle without being seen by the rest of the city.

Back in Chiaroscuro a number of bureaus are trying to obtain the bodies of the invisible creatures. After enforcing an agreement to split the bodies and deliver reports, the Circle returns to Nexus in search of Mercury. And while most of the Circle finds nothing as their journey takes them to Rhythm who has recently reached essence 6, the Maiden confronts Zuko privately once again. She reveals that the two children are Pluto and Charon and that the child that was once the Emissary is Sybaris, for a total of 5 lost Maidens. She also speaks of the super thief, empowered by samsara, that has stolen artifacts from heaven and the masked constructs that are masquerading as the Circle and are likely controlled by a solar. Finally, she agreed to assign a god to enable communication between member of the Circle and their allies.

A moment after Zuko engaged the entity at the bottom of the shaft, Kadon discovered another group of enemies attacking Ophelia, which Mnemia redirected to engage. By the time this new threat had been dealt with, Zuko and Ioni had neutralized the solar essence infused entity. In the aftermath of the battle Mnemia remained in Chiaroscuro, watching the children, while the others returned to the Eastern Grove to analyze both the invisible creatures and the entity that had attacked Gavin. While little new was learned about the former (they have a mundane secret at their core), the later turned out to be some manner of automotan created as a joint effort during the First Age.

How thick are the walls of the shaft?

On the 31st floor of one of the central towers of Chiaroscuro the circle found a solar holding a child and surrounded by a number of the stealth creatures that seemed intent upon his death. First to act, Zuko was across the room in a moment, taking the child from the solar and moving to relative safety. The stealth creatures in turn focused their attention on Ioni, Kadon and Scarlet. Their attacks were ineffective, and a moment later, once she was in position, Mnemia struck all of the creatures down with a single blow. Immediately moving in pursuit of the unknown solar, they found him at the bottom of the elevator shaft attempting to beat the crap out of Gavin.

After determining that their insubstantial prisoner could tell them nothing without hurting itself, the circle asked it to take them to someone that could answer their questions. They ended up at an Eye of Autochthon buried somewhere beneath Chiaroscuro. Though the being escaped, the circle had hours to spend with the device, learning about multiple Saturn’s Rings, that some kind of primordial was responsible for the attack on Gaia and that one of the Deathlords was stuck in Creation. Scarlet’s questions though (she took over from Kadon once it was discovered she had additional system permissions) got them ejected to the Loom of Fate. When they returned they found Chairoscuro under attack by the stealth creatures they had been tracking for days now.

The Circle hunts two targets within the confines of Chiaroscuro: one who is working to keep the adamant alchemical infected with the Great Contagion and another who appears to be the same person stealing for fun in Nexus and the Eastern Grove. The first is caught by Scarlet and the Bride of Luna, revealing himself to work for a greater power near White Wall. A second target was found and subdued, but it could be a third party rather than the master thief. Using a variation of Crystal Chameleon style, an observer the Circle now believes is one of many, was ambushed and knocked unconscious by Zuko despite its attempt to dematerialize.

With the Circle spending more and more time in Nexus, they discover that someone is stealing items of limited value from places that are very hard to get into. Opting for a passive approach, Kadon leaves a number of message in locations where the thief might strike next, inviting her to speak with him. It’s also around this time that Mercury asks Zuko to protect the unborn Uranus from solar assassins, believing the Unconquered Sun will order her death. Meanwhile, in Chiaroscuro, an adamant alchemical begins to suffer from the Great Contagion and must be sealed away within the vat complex of the matropolis.
