The galaxy is reeling from war.
The Sith Lords Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma, along with their Krath and Mandalorian allies, waged war on the Republic, causing devastation until they were defeated by the combined Jedi and Republic forces. Afterward, the Mandalorian Wars, concurrently with the Jedi Civil War led by the Sith Lords Darth Revan and Darth Malak, reduced to rubble and ash worlds from the Outer Rim to the Core. Billions lie dead, and a dozen worlds remain ravaged.
It is now seven years after the end of the Jedi Civil War, after the Force-brainwashed Darth Revan recovered his memories and took his allies far into the depths of space, presumably never to return. Dozens of Sith warlords took control of space formerly controlled by Revan and Malak, and instead of tearing each other apart, the conflict has made them stronger. The Republic, desperate to rebuild but without Jedi to combat the squabbling Sith and Dark Jedi, cut its losses and turned inward to rebuild the Core Worlds.
The Jedi are all but extinct.
From the Mid to Outer Rim, most worlds are controlled by self-stylized Sith warlords and other practitioners of the Dark Side of the Force. Gangsters, scoundrels, bounty hunters and Hutts alike all look for opportunity in this war-torn quadrant of the galaxy.
Unn Zohn, Jedi Knight and Watchman, had abandoned his post on Randon, taking it upon himself to scoop up whatever Force-sensitives he could and hide from the purge on a nearby moon. It is 3949 BBY, and Master Zohn’s Padawan-learners will either rebuild the Jedi Order, or complete its destruction.
Welcome to Chapter I: Shroud of the Dark Side.
Star Wars: Aftermath is a tabletop Star Wars – Saga Edition game set in the Old Republic era, specifically focusing on the time after the Jedi Civil War. In order to provide an interesting setting, canon has been altered slightly such that the squabbling Sith warlords that remained after the wars characteristic of the Old Republic era do not wipe each other out; instead, their constant strife makes them stronger into warring fiefdoms. The PCs represent some of the remaining Light Side Jedi left in the galaxy.
