An elven princess from the woodland realm of Idlewilde, Layleth is more at home in the wilderness than in crowded cities, and also possesses her people’s quiet, introspective nature, making her seem a bit antisocial and withdrawn. Due to her noble upbringing, she can also be condescending at times. Yet despite her apparent lack of people skills, she is brave and fiercely loyal to her allies, and will risk life and limb to help those she cares about. Layleth is often the first to leap into a fray – not out of recklessness, but because it is a calculated risk that frequently pays off.
Layleth’s mother died when she was a young girl, leaving her to be raised by her father, along with her three brothers. Lacking a strong female influence in her life, Layleth is very much a tomboy, and was trained by her father and brothers to be a skilled hunter, tracker, and fighter. However, her abilities were often overshadowed by those of her brothers, whom her father always favored. Layleth’s father, Aelar, is chief of the Autumngale tribe – a tribe which has faced numerous threats over the past year, including having bordering kingdoms encroach upon its hunting grounds. Most recently, the tribe was raided by a horde of hobgoblins, who managed to kill many of the Autumngales’ finest warriors. Layleth’s two older brothers, Tarin and Soren, died in the battle, while her twin brother, Lucan, was taken captive by the hobgoblins and sold into slavery. With her brothers gone, and her father crushed by the loss, she is now her tribe’s only hope for securing their future. She suspects that the hobgoblins were hired by one of the neighboring kingdoms who wish to take over her tribe’s land. She will stop at nothing to find Lucan and return him safely home, and would be more than happy to bash a few skulls along the way.
