Horace “Diamond” Walsh used to be a trigger man for one of the state-wide bootlegging outfits. Since Repeal, he’s carved himself out a little territory in South Boston, running extortion and vice rackets.
Recently, Walsh has been trying to buy his way into respectable society. He owns restaurants in Boston and Kingsport and has tried unsuccessfully to join the Kingsport Yacht Club. Word on the street is that he’s trying to impress his new girlfriend Zora Smallidge.
Early in the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1935, Walsh’s Boston home burned down under mysterious circumstances. Due to a last minute change of plans, neither Walsh nor anyone else was in the house at the time.
