San Fernando (AP) – After a week’s absence, the Kraken has at last been spotted alongside three other superheroes in battle with the Beekeeper, who had threatened to hold all of California hostage with his killer insects. When pressed for comment after the heroic struggle, he only stated that he had been struck from behind by a mysterious ray and that he had no leads at this time. He then exited the scene with his newest comrades to avoid a crowd of relieved but overwhelming San Fernandans, leaving the public with more questions than answers.

The Kraken has been a mainstay of the San Fernandan community since the early 1970s, when he fought villainy as Limpet Boy alongside Commodore Crab. While they never joined the Troublebreakers, the two vigilantes made their presence known through local charitable work as much as crimebusting. They parted ways after a decade together for unknown reasons, but Limpet Boy quickly reinvented himself as Nighttide after a wave of crime hit the city. At the close of 1992, however, he found himself powerless to stop the death of his mentor at the hands of their greatest foe, the ironically-named Good Doctor. It was at this moment that the former sidekick retired—temporarily, as it would turn out—to travel the world, improve his skills, and search for the biological parents with whom he had lost touch. He returned to San Fernando under the name “the Kraken” in 2005, and, until recently, his career had been quite successful for an aging superhero. All San Fernandans are here to wish the Kraken well in his future endeavors.
