Name: Faegin Gildorean
Race: Eladrin
Age: 167, in his prime. Appears to be in late twenties to early thirties, in human terms
Sex: Male
Occupation: Black-ops soldier in the Evereskan Army. Member of the Shade Stalkers, a special forces unit. Holds the rank of Captain.
Physical Appearance
Height: 5’8"
Weight: 150
Hair: Flaxen pale cream with an almost silvery luster, straight and fine, falls to below his shoulder-blades. Worn loose, as is customary among his people.
Eyes: Bright opalescent sky blue with no visible pupil (as is typical of Eladrin), almond-shaped, a little squinty when he smiles. Sharply angled, neat brows are a pale white-gold color just slightly darker than his hair.
Skin: Rosy cheeked with a milky blue undertone.
Facial Features: Good looking even by Eladrin standards, heart-shaped face with high cheekbones, dimpled chin. Small, slightly crooked nose, thin lips, and a mouth that curves up in the hint of a smile when his face is relaxed. No facial hair. Long, pointed ears.
Other Physical Traits: Typical Eladrin build, honed by a lifetime’s service in the military: broad-shouldered, slender, athletic. Flexible and acrobatic.
Handedness: Right.
Voice: Tenor, tends to rise when he’s happy or excited. Gets quieter when he’s angry.
Identifying Marks: The Shadow Mark: a whip-lash scar coiling around his torso that marks the path the shadow magic took through him when he became a Shadow Warrior and member of the Shade Stalkers.
Usual Clothing: Close-fitting leggings and high-necked, long-sleeved shirt dyed a midnight blue-black, with a cowelled neck that can be pulled up to become a clinging mask covering nose and mouth. Enchanted leather armour, dark charcoal grey, with a suede surface that reflects light poorly. The enchantment protects him from necrotic damage, and is capable of dealing a backlash blow to attackers. Waterproof cloak in indeterminate shade somewhere between grey, blue and black, that affords an ease in slipping into shadows. Soft black leather boots with silent soles. Wears an enchanted belt that protects him from poisons, and has various assassin’s tools secreted in hidden pockets and folds of his clothing, including lock picks, slender poisoned needles, a garrotte wire, fire starters, a signal mirror, and other small useful items.
Living Situation: When in Evereska, lives in an apartment in the military headquarters of the Evereskan Army, on a floor reserved for members of the Shade Stalkers. Also has a room in his grandmother’s compound, though he does not stay there often.
Skills
Fighting Style: Strikes from the shadows, then shade-steps away before a return blow can be landed. He lies in wait, studying for weakness and marking his foe with shadow shrouds that sap the enemy’s strength, then darts in for a vicious strike when the time is right. When fighting more than one foe, Faegin tries to force one of the enemy away from the others, so as to concentrate his attack. A vicious striker, but a weak defender, Faegin needs allies with muscle and healing abilities.
Preferred Weapons: Skilled with blade. Uses an Eladrin long sword of fine make, with a tracery of dark lettering that encode its enchantment, making it more lethal against vulnerable enemies. Carries a short blade as well, of gnomish make, which can kindle into flame at his command. Uses a lightweight shield that confers special protection against an enemy’s most vicious strikes.
Magic: Can shroud an enemy with wreaths of shadow magic which sap the enemy and make Faegin’s attacks more lethal. Can create a shadow clone to flank his enemy: it looks identical to Faegin and mirrors his moves, but is only capable of weak attacks. Can become insubstantial, so that blows seem to slide right through him, doing only a fraction of the damage they should. Can step through the Feywild. Can teleport short distances at will, as long as a living target is nearby.
Strengths: Stalking, stealth, hand-to-hand fighting with long and short blades. Dextrous. Charismatic.
Weaknesses: Not very strong or robust. Accustomed more to working alone than to leading others, despite his rank.
Personality
General Personality Traits: Light-hearted despite his profession. On duty Faegin is focused and intense. He is methodical and thorough, a consummate planner, because an assassin can’t be too careful. Off duty he’s lively, talkative, easily distracted, sexual, and a major tease. H’s been known to stir things up just for the sake of making trouble. He can also be charming, polished, and an absolute delight. If you have his attention, Faegin can make you feel like no-one else in the world matters. He’s a major flirt, is innately sexy, and he knows it. He’s also a skilled assassin, and he knows that, too.
Quirks: Likes sweets a lot. A bit of a neat freak. Makes his bed every day (and uses high thread count sheets) and keeps his apartment spotless and well organized. Whiny and miserable when sick or injured. If startled while in trance, he’ll attack to kill before he’s fully aware of his surroundings.
Sexual Orientation: Gayer than a handbag full of rainbows
Gifts/Talents: Gifted with a sword. Excellent dancer. Smart as a whip. Likable at first blush. Fantastic liar. Can fall into trance anywhere, including standing up. Acrobatic. Charming.
Flaws: Vain. Tends to be a bit of a smartass. Twitchy. Devious. Manipulative. Cheats at cards.
Religion: Follower of Corellon, though he’s not exactly a religious nut.
Philosophy: The ends justify the means.
Likes and Loves: Sweets, fruit, music and dancing, playing cards, soaking in hot springs, sex, cuddling (but only a very select few know it.)
Dislikes and Hates: Bitter things, Drow, Undead. Not too keen on Humans, who lack subtlety, but it’s not an outright hatred.
Fears: Paralysis. Losing a limb. Breaking under torture. Being buried alive.
Dreams and Ambitions: To serve as a loyal soldier and never fail a mission. To see the restoration of Evereska to its former glory. To find a true soulmate. To slay an evil dragon (because that would be cool.)
Relationships
Family: Mother Maedhrel, Grandmother Chihiroel, Grandfather Tel’Genos (deceased 100 years ago in Year of Wild Magic)
Friends: Hiron, a younger Eladrin in the Intelligence branch of the Shade Stalkers, who gathers and analyzes information, but does not spill blood and has not taken the Shadow Mark.
Lovers: None at present who are more than casual.
Hero: His grandfather.
Enemies: All enemies of the Fay Folk. All enemies of the free peoples of Faerun. The Netherese. The Phaerimm.
Personal History: Born in Evereska in 1305 DR, the Year of the Night Horse, to the young daughter of one of Evereska’s greatest military leaders. Faegin’s grandfather, Tel’Genos Gildorean was one of three trusted generals in command of Evereska’s defenses, advisor and friend to High Elder Druisar, and a member of the Council of Elders in his own right. His daughter, Maedhrel, became pregnant with Faegin when she was only 43, shockingly young for her kind, and refused to name the father.
Despite the mild scandal surrounding his birth, Faegin was raised with much love and an assumption that he would, as inheritor of his grandfather’s name and skill, enter the military when he came of age.
He served bravely as a member of the guard, was well trained in military arts, and showed an aptitude for independent action, often taking the role of scout. He soon caught the eye of Elder Gelthinlian, founder of the Shade Stalkers, though he was not called to that service. Then came the Year of Wild Magic, the betrayal of Evereska, and the Spellplague. Many died, including Faegin’s grandfather. In the aftermath, as Evereska struggled to rebuild, those who survived, even youngsters such as Faegin, who was just 67 at the time, were called upon to take greater responsibilities.
The Shade Stalkers called Faegin to their ranks, training him in stealth and subterfuge, and in the art of assassination. Faegin showed himself to be well suited to his new calling, and when the time came, willingly accepted the Mark of the Shadow, taking Shadow Magic into his very flesh.
Since then, he has served as an agent of the Shade Stalkers, carrying out the unsavory work that the government and military cannot do openly. He is an assassin, a taker of life, but not a murderer. He is a sharp and deadly tool in the hands of the Elders, and though it is his blade that draws enemy blood, his hand does not choose the target.
Special Notes: On long-term field assignment reporting directly to Elder Gelthinlian.
