Use Performance to set a course of action in the future Jason’s affinity with the Cadence allows him to manipulate it in order to affect the Universe around him. Given enough time and focus, he can actively direct a course of events (Thaumaturgy) If there is no obvious skill to oppose, use Conviction for People and 3 shifts for the Universe in general The further into the future and the more complex the action, the more shifts required
Use Performance to do any maneauver involving Luck or Fate Jason’s affinity with the Cadence allows him to manipulate it in order to affect the Universe around him. By boosting the Cadence or dimishing it, he can have more immediate influence on allies and enemies (Evocation) If there is no obvious skill to oppose, use Conviction for People and 3 shifts for the Universe in general Shifts can be reduced by taking more time to complete the effect. Otherwise, the remainder is taken as Stress.
Read the Surface
You can get a sense of someone quickly when trying to read them. Your first attempt to read someone takes less than a minute of interaction, instead of the usual ten. Any subsequent efforts with the same person do not enjoy this benefit.
Performance as a complimentary skill for any assessment Performance used to sense ambush or otherwise avoid being surprised Performance vs. Discipline to assess aspects that are linked to Powers Ability to sense the rhythm and flow of the music that makes of the Universe. This allows Jason to understand the deeper meaning surround people, places, and things.
Jason has always been talented. From his earliest days, he would spend hours simply listening. To the radio, the television, the cries of his twin sister, the explosive and chaotic sounds of the busy city, he would sit silently and just listen. Then, one day, he began to…re-create the sounds he heard. To say he would imitate would not be an accurate description. The sounds he created in response were, somehow, more… well…right. They appeared to be more pure, more true. Raised by a single father, Adelphos, along with his twin sister, Leora, Jason eventually learned to turn anything he heard or saw into a song. And not the childish ramblings of a growing adolescent but catchy, memorable things remembered by anyone who heard them. Jason and Leora are both descended from the Greek Muse, Euterpe (the muse of music) but they are currently unaware of this. Jason and Leora were inseparable as they matured, Jason using his love and affinity for music to quickly win friends, misdirect enemies, and influence the world around him. While not as innately talented as Jason, Leora possessed a singularly strong mind, body, and spirit. As they approached their college years, cracks began to form between the twins. Justin began to grow more aloof, more distant as if the music he loved so much began to overwhelm the world around him. As an opposing contrast, Leora became more structured, more rigid, more disciplined as she prepared for college and her future. One day, Justin simply disappeared.
Jason’s passion for music evolved. It wasn’t so much that he enjoyed music of all sorts, styles, and flavors; of course he did. But that he could hear music in the every day, in the wind through trees, the footfalls on pavement, the whine of electrical equipment. Together they began to create something he could follow. As he grew older, as he focused on this Cadence, he found he could follow these patterns and see how they would actually define the world around him. The way people would react or behave, the patterns of traffic, even where a particular leaf would fall from a tree could be predicted by following the Cadence. Over time, he discovered that by making subtle changes, he could influence the world around him as well. It was small things at first. Directing someone to turn left when they would otherwise have turned right or predicting the exact moment to catch a falling vase were relatively easy things to master. He found the Cadence revealed the patterns of the universe around him and he could influence their direction but not their will or intent. At least, not by reading the Cadence itself. The minds and passions of people could be swayed using more mundane ways if necessary. As Justin became more tuned to the Cadence, he began to not so much hear as feel the Discordant. There were forces and entities that were, not only outside of the Cadence, but were working to further disrupt it. The idea of such things sickened him to his very soul. He knew, deep down, that he must actively work against these forces. Justin left his home and his family that very day. Part of him regretted painfully leaving them behind…at least he did some time later. But this was what he was meant to do; what he was born to do. And he was going to get started as soon as possible.
GUEST STARRING Bruno Walsh
Upon arriving in Seattle, Justin quickly became acclimated to the local music scene. His musical and social skills allowed him to make friends and contact with local musical groups and artists. He developed a close relationship with a band by the name of “Beneath Notice”, and began performing regularly as their lead singer. Over time, they quickly began to develop a passionate following. Justin found that the Cadence flared to life when he performed and he found himself quickly becoming enraptured with it. This overwhelming surge of beauty, love, and power blotted out the cloying presence of the Discordant which drew him to this city. It wasn’t until he found out that people were disappearing, in particular the bands bass guitarist, Fable, that he learned the danger of allowing the beauty of the Cadence and his connection to it to blind him. Using his unique gifts and the help of Bruno Walsh, a totemic warrior, he was able to find Fable, but not after she has been all but removed from the Cadence itself. The entities of the Discordant still remained hidden to Justin, but he was able to guide Fable toward the path to recovery. It will be a long and dark path, but one he hopes she will be able to walk with a little help. Topaz, a street performer who drew in Bruno, is helping her to recover that music that was stolen from her. Justin feels guilty about drawing the entities of Discord with his revels in the Cadence itself. For that reason, Justin has stepped away from performing and is currently attempting to further strengthen the Cadence by supporting and promoting local bands who’s music flows properly with its design.
GUEST STARRING Sarah St. Claire
Following the events that drove Jason from the stage, Jason had to find more indirect ways to influence and nurture potential talent. Working as a small-time producer wasn’t paying the bills and Jason felt he needed to branch out to other artistic forms. Dance seemed to be the easiest next step. And what better place to find the physically gifted than in the dance clubs of Pioneer Square. Unfortunately, Jason found a lot more than he bargained for in the form of his estranged sister, Sarah. During a series of seemingly unrelated events that transpire over the evening, a number of fallacies are revealed. The art of music and the art of dance are NOT the same thing One person’s selfishisness is another person’s selflessness The shadows don’t hide everything You are safer in a crowd than you are alone.
GUEST STARRING Zebidiah Einar
Jason has found that Seattle sings at night. The number of night clubs and the buzz of activity causes the Cadence to go wild after the sun sets. Being someone who is into the music scene in Seattle also infers a rather robust night life. Unfortunately, this buzz of after-dark activity also draws a number of unsavory night predetors and a group of wanna-be vampire hunters who have their crosshairs aimed at Jason’s chest. The only thing worse than an idiot, is an idiot with a weapon. A group of idiots with weapons and money is a recipie for disaster. If it wasn’t for this strange, grouch old man who always seems to be around at the right time, Jason would have had to sing his swan song at the hands of the Twilight Brigade.
