HIGH CONCEPT: CANNIBAL SERVANT OF THE OUTER DARK
- DEVOURER OF FLESH AND SPIRIT
- LOYAL SERVANT OF LEVIATHAN
- MASTER OF INSANITY
- FORMER REDCAP CHANGELING
Defeated and presumed dead. Instigator of the Earthquake in the THE CAULDRON OF MURDER case.
FANTASTIC +6: Intimidate, Deceit
SUPERB +5: Discipline, Rapport, Presence
GREAT +4: Conviction, Empathy, Lore
GOOD +3: Endurance, Fists, Athletics
•+2 damage with physical attacks for a total of +4.
INHUMAN STRENGTH -2
•IMPROVED LIFTING. Whenever lifting or breaking inanimate things, you gain a +3 to your Might score.
•BRUISING STRENGTH. Roll Might at +1 whenever grappling. This also allows a 2-stress hit on an opponent as a supplemental action during a grapple.
•SUPERIOR STRENGTH. Whenever using Might to modify (page 214) another skill, it always provides a +1 regardless of the comparison of your Might score to the skill.
•HAMMER BLOWS. With attacks that depend on muscular force increase the stress dealt by two on a successful hit.
INHUMAN SPEED -2
• IMPROVED INITIATIVE. Alertness +4
• ATHLETIC ABILITY. All Athletic checks +1 (including Dodging). Sprinting is +2
• CASUAL MOVEMENT. Whenever moving is part of another physical activity, you may move 1 zone without taking a -1 penalty for supplimental action
• ALMOST TOO FAST TO SEE. Difficulty factors due to moving are reduced by 2 when rolling Stealth
INHUMAN RECOVERY -2
CATCH: Magic +3
•TOTAL RECOVERY. Able to recover from any physical harm with enough time.
•FAST RECOVERY. Recover from physical consequences as if they were one level lower. Below mild are removed.
•VIGOROUS. Endurance never restricts skills due to lack of rest.
•SHRUG IT OFF. Once per scene clear a Mild Consequence as supplemental action.
SUPERNATURAL TOUGHNESS -4
CATCH As Above.
• HARD TO HURT. You naturally have Armor:2 against all physical stress.
• HARD TO KILL. You have four additional boxes of physical stress.
INCITE LOYALTY -5
•At range, lasting, potent. May use Rapport (diplomacy), Intimidation or Deceit as the base skill, depending on the situation.
•Use Discipline skill as an overt psychic attack on helpless victims, dealing mental stress and consequences until the victim’s mind is entirely under your sway.
MASTER DOMINATOR -2
•Increase your psychic attacks to +2 stress on a successful hit and you can create enhanced Renfields with Inhuman Strength (page 183), Inhuman Recovery (page 185), and lifespans of no longer than a month. It takes three days to create an enhanced Renfield.
•Spirit equivalent of blood drinker. As he devours flesh Bean feeds on the spirit of his victim.
•Devour Flesh. Any time you draw blood in close personal combat gain +1 to attack them. Also inflict an extra point of stress in while grappling.
•The Taste of Death. Once per scene, if you inflict enough stress and consequences to kill a victim from feeding, you may take an immediate “free” recovery period equal to an extra scene. This will clear the stress track and mild physical consequences (page 220), and possibly larger consequences if you have an ability that lets you heal quickly (page 184).
•Blood Frenzy. When in the presence of fresh blood, you feel a nearly uncontrollable urge to attack. The GM is within her rights to call for Discipline rolls to resist the urge. In some cases, the urge may take the form of a compel against your high concept.
FAR-REACHING GRASP -2
•Can use mental powers at long range, usually line of sight
MASS MANIPULATION -8
•Can incite emotions over 4 zones at once.
MASS DOMINATION -8
•Can use domination (including master dominator) over 4 zones at once. Victims still have to be willing or helpless – though this is rarely a problem after Bean has applied Incite Loyalty first.
SENSES: EYES AN EARS OF THE SLAVE -3
•Can see and hear the events around any dominated minions and have a general sense of events around fanatically loyal minions that are not possessed yet. They are never confused or overwhelmed by that sense though they must travel to individual minions (see below) to use senses other than sight and hearing.
TOTAL REFRESH COST:
PHYSICAL OOOO (OOOO) +1 mild consequence
Sawney Bean was born in East Lothian, about 10 miles from Edinburgh. His parents were hedgers and ditchers and he was brought up to that trade, but was noted for his indolence and dishonesty. At the age of 20, he ran of with a woman, Black Agnes Douglas, and having no home or livelihood, set up house in a sea cave in Galloway. Here the couple lived for 25 years, without ever visiting a town or village.
The Beans supported themselves by killing and robbing travellers, and survived on their victims’ flesh, eating the entrails raw and the limbs pickled and salted. The Beans had several children and the children grew up in the grisly lifestyle of their parents, and in turn, incestuously had children of their own, until the Bean tribe grew into a gang of 46. Over the years, thousands of people went missing, but the authorities had no clue as to how they disappeared. Innkeepers were suspected and, indeed many were hanged on suspicion, but the Beans were not detected.
As the Bean tribe grew larger, they became so adept at murder that they had a surplus of food, and often threw unwanted limbs into the sea, where they would be washed to shore, much to the horror of seaside inhabitants. On one occasion, a man and his wife were returning from a local fair on horseback, when they were ambushed by the Beans. The man put up a struggle his wife fell from her horse, to be instantly butchered by the cannibals, who ripped out her entrails and feasted on her blood. At that moment, a large party of travellers from the fair arrived at the scene and Beans were forced to retreat to their lair. When the travellers arrived in Glasgow, they informed the magistrates, who in turn told the king, James VI, later James I of England, and king of Great Britain, who took personal charge of the case.
The king took a posse of 400 men, together with bloodhounds, to search the area. Although the king’s men found the cave by the sea, they saw that the tide entered its mouth and did not believe that anyone could exist within it. But the bloodhounds caught the scent of the flesh, and set about barking and yelping. As the men entered the cave, they found dried parts of human bodies hanging from the roof, pickled limbs in barrels, and piles of money and valuables, the possessions of their victims. The Beans were captured alive and taken to Edinburgh in chains, where they were incarcerated in the Tollbooth.
On 31st August 1590, after a brief summary trial, they were convicted of over a 1000 murders, and the whole of the clan were sent for execution. The men had their hands and legs severed from their bodies, and were left to bleed to death. The women were forced to watch the spectacle of the men’s deaths, and then received a more humane sentence of being burnt to death in a bonfire.
