Before Eidel was old enough to walk her parents traveled through the woods on the Western Side of the Circle. To where or why they were traveling was not known but they did not make it to the other side. In the middle of the night something descended on their camp and swept the pair away. It was pure luck whatever did this missed Eidel leaving her alone in the woods. Also traveling through that land though was a group of human merchants taking their goods to the city in the south. They found the Halfling child and the owner of the caravan and his wife took her as their own. The Raptis’ couple returned to their home in the North with Eidel and raised her in the city of humans.
Eidel learned all she needed to know in respects to school while living in the Human City. During her 25th winter though a storm threatened her home; the first winds ripped open a hole in the roof. She volunteered to climb at top and fix it before the rains started. The sky grew darker as she worked though. Finally as Eidel finished thunder and lightning crashed through the sky very close above. One…two…three bolts in quick succession stuck the Halfling before she could climb down; instead she flew as a smoky corpse to the ground. Expecting her dead, the Raptis carried her body inside before the rain could harm it more only to find Eidel awaken, coughing and singed but alive.
Within the next days many changes appeared in the Halfling, such as sparks appearing from her fingers and every time she brushed fingers through her hair it changed to a different shade. Things that a fully trained wizard should be able to do easily but not Eidel who had never had any magical training. With fear for what was happening to their daughter, the Raptis rushed her off to a wizard’s academy so that they could tell them what had happened.
A particularly crazed old wizard spent weeks studying what Eidel had learned to do in such a short time. Things that took many of his students years to even begin to understand. After hearing this was brought on by lightning he declared her to be cursed. Of what kind or how to break it he claimed was beyond his knowledge. Therefore Eidel took it upon herself to leave home and find out how to break this curse.
