* "The Cerberus Command"
Security Unit for the Iron Dingoes - Combined Arms Battalion
Description
Cerberus Command – Combined Arms Reinforced Battalion / Regular / Reliable
The formal organization of the Iron Dingoes military assets as a security detail.
The unit uses a typical olive drab pattern employed by its parent unit, though with black highlights. It uses the traditional snarling dingo of the Iron Dingoes, but also bears a unique logo of a fierce, three-headed dingo on its non-dress caps and arms as a unit patch. The unit has adopted the motto : Eternal Vigilance.
Officers : This unit acts under the command of the line units, answering directly to the Unit S-6 (Communications and Security), and as such, has no specific commanding officer in its ranks. Duties, however, are divided among various lieutenants.
Lieutenant SG Walker McGuire acts as senior officer of the Perimeter Security Group. Using his vast experience as a former MP, he is talented and well-cast in his position. He is assisted by Lieutenant JG Edmund Graves “Gunny”, Lieutenant JG Abbey Chase “Peaches”, Lieutenant JG Jerri Holden, and LtJG Alexander Calvin. In addition, he looks after the unit’s infantry supplies and small arms lockers as the unit’s senior WeaponsMaster, and is further assisted in these tasks by Lieutenant JG Dominic Reed, who looks after many of the technical needs of the infantry. The unit also has a skilled senior non-com, Master Trooper Grant Burke “Sabre”, who does most of the actual training of new unit infantry personnel. Both McGuire and Burke are based from the command portion of the security group. Lt Holden is presently on detached duty with * The Sangrian Training Company.
Senior Trooper Candy Dulfer heads up a single squad of Military Police (MP) troopers (known as the Internal Security Unit), and answers directly to Cerberus Command.
Lieutenant SG Michael “Mad Mike” Vincent heads the Marine Security Group, using his experience in the Oriente Special Forces to train the unit’s marines.
Lieutenant SG Vikki Marcotte leads the Armor Security Group. A skilled armor leader, she spends most of her time trying to train her new recruits in defensive armor operations.
Lieutenant JG Zebediah “Zeddy” MacIntyre, a former artillery officer and also a former bandit, is a grizzled veteran of many skills, who leads the unit’s Artillery Security Group. He is assisted by Senior Trooper Edward “Pot-Shot” Farsaker, recently freed from the Orion Prison Complex, who is also a talented artillery soldier.
Tactics : The unit has the protection of Dingoes assets as its primary purpose, and generally acts as base security of the Iron Dingoes DropShip and support crews. Each sub-group, however, has specific responsibilities, and occasionally spends time with the line units in direct support of specific objectives, such as holding salvaged assets or captured sites.
The Starguards, however, fill the position of defensive marines, and as such operate exclusively on each DropShip in the Dingoes growing fleet. Each unit is fairly independent for most operations, familiarizing themselves with every nook and cranny of the DropShip they have been assigned, but coming together when required for group training to practice boarding and counter-boarding operations.
The Military Police serve in pairs, and tend to travel widely among the ships of the Dingoes fleet; with only a handful available, they are unable to have more than two roving pairs at any given time. Most of this time is spent talking with the various DropShip leads, and doing investigative work regarding minor crimes, such as theft and domestic issues.
Support : Due to limited technical support, practically all maintenance for this unit is done by its own crews, with limited assistance from the Dingoes Den technical crews when they have available time.
The Marine Security Group, or “Starguards”, is detailed to DropShip security and anti-boarding operations. One squad is typically assigned to each DropShip in the Dingoes fleet, with extra units taking residence aboard the “Brush Wolf” as a reserve. The unit is presently broken into two seperate forces; one active star marines, and one still in training.
The trained portion are equipped as “Elite Infantry”, but each has also been issued with C80 Combat Environment Suits, L2 “Maser” Laser Assault Rifles and a pair of military-grade power packs. They also have jump packs available, though these are not typically deployed in standard defensive operations. There are a pair of military-grade power-pack rechargers available to each squad, giving them ample ammunition supplies for their laser rifles. Each squad includes a single cross-trained tech to assist in boarding operations. Equipped with a full basic tech kit, the tech also maintaines a single “Desert Iris” Jeep equipped with a MG that is assigned to facilitate the squad’s movement when grounded on-planet. The tech’s skill level tends to be one step below the combat capabilities of the squad as a whole.
The other portion of the “Star Guards” are the two exceptional platoons formerly from the Militia (the 1st and 6th), have been equipped with Iron Dingoes “Warlord” Field Kits, and have trained hard to familiarize themselves with this experimental equipment. Each of these special units has also been assigned a modified Packrat LRPV, removing its SRM-6s and ammo, and replacing them with two flamers for anti-infantry actions, and an improved infantry bay to carry the entire platoon. Each squad is working to integrate a single cross-trained tech (equipped with a full basic technical kit) into their roster, allowing greater freedom to engage in independent operations, though it could be some time before this aspect of the unit takes full shape.
These troopers have been equipped with EVA Suits – “Prometheus Class”, which allow them to fulfill their marine duties, though the suits were not exactly intended for combat when designed. The suits they personally employ are being modified to incorporate their Warlord Combat Armor, and although difficult, should result in a capable marine combat force when complete. Senior Trooper Jack Krauss and Senior Trooper Shiv have risen to be the closest thing the training unit has to officers, and lead the 1st Platoon “Trojan Horses” and 6th Platoon “Shiv’s Star Talons”. Both platoons still serve aboard the “Star Talon” until further notice, and have engaged in several active operations during their training, accelerating their skills development.
The Internal Security Group is a dedicated squad of experienced security troopers, whose tasks include maintaining any prisoners captured during operations, and keeping the peace among the troopers, techs and civilians in the Dingoes. Although armed as an “Elite” infantry squad, they wear distinctive arm bands and paint their helmets a solid black with a white stripe. Both have the ubiquitous “MP” insignia to identify their unit designation. They typically deploy as pairs in any given encounter. They have also taken several Air Skimmer “Vulture”s to act as unit vehicles, and as such are able to promptly move between locations whenever required.
The Combined-Arms Training Group represents a CHM-3 Chameleon “Training Scout” and a pair of Goblin Infantry Support Tanks kept as a training force, allowing the unit to train combined arms to recruits. This aspect of training is a key principle in present Dingoes tactics, and is being stressed in training at this time. The force also doubles as a reserve combat force in need.
The Perimeter Security Group “The Hellhounds” are tasked with maintaining the perimeter of any base or camp established by the Iron Dingoes; traditionally this includes a motion sensor net and surrounds the unit’s DropShips while on-planet. Should the Iron Dingoes gain a landholding, it falls on this unit to provide security. Each demi-platoon usually consists of two or three standard rifle infantry squads and a smaller support squad of troopers armed with MGs.
Arms for the long-term Perimeter groups are typically Iron Dingoes “Elite” Infantry Field Kits, but are supplemented at the squad level with night vision goggles, SMGs and plenty of spare ammo and medical kits. The MG Support squads carry a mix of LMGs and HMGs acquired from various sources, but are well-supplied with ammunition. Lesser units, such as the newer platoons and the “Militia” employ Iron Dingoes “Militia” Field Kits. Though not as good as the “Elite” version, the armor and other equipment makes them capable of holding their own against most other infantry units.
The Hellhounds have been outfitted with a Command Van and a number of Hover APCs, which act as “command” vehicles for most sub-units, and carry the support MG squads if they need to relocate quickly. A pair of Light Utility Trucks are also available in the command element to move supplies and troops. Constant hiring has pushed these platoons to roughly two companies of infantry, but grant the unit a considerable number of defensive assets. Acquisition of the “Star Talon” for this unit has freed space from the “Dingoes’ Den”, which the techs and support personnel of the Dingoes have slowly dominated.
A small number of “Militia” (mostly former civilians attempting to become soldiers, or former pirate raiders) known as the “Overlord Janissary Group”, have been locally hired and equipped from battlefield salvage to bolster the infantry assets of the Dingoes for their garrison work and contracts. These forces, essentially an under-strength company, are equipped with Iron Dingoes “Militia” Field Kits, though many favor close-in weapons (like shotguns and handguns) that they have acquired on their own. Combat knives and blades of various types are also common. Each platoon has also been assigned a “Desert Iris” Jeep (MG) as a command vehicle. For now, the unit answers directly to Lieutenant SG Walker McGuire, and do not have an independent officer structure. The best of the “Militia” troopers are often recruited into the line security forces to replace recent losses. The entire unit has been officially assigned the “Star Talon” for off-world transport, though their individual long-term employment remains in question. These platoons have been temporarily detached to fulfill a separate Cadre contract, under the aegis of * The Sangrian Training Company.
The unit Armor Security Group “The Glory Hounds”, includes a mixed pair of armor lances, each boasting a Manticore Heavy Tank, a T-12 Tiger Medium Tank and a pair of Vedette Medium Tanks. These lances traditionally also each attach a squad of locally hired mechanics, that help maintain the unit’s vehicles. A Light Utility Truck is assigned to each tech team, assisting in hauling the personnel and supplies for the armor assets.
The Artillery Security Group “Thunderwave” consists of three lances of artillery. The first, the “Deadwood Thumpers” consists of a pair of mint Long Tom 3s, ( Kate & Leopold ) mounted on recovered Pike Support Vehicle hulls, making them a powerful and fairly mobile unit. The information to make its specialized ammo for the Long Toms is in unit possession, and might be built under limited, controlled environments by the technical teams. A Packrat LRPV has been placed as fire control, and a pair of UL-S13 Armored Recovery Vehicles are equipped with a loading hoist, creating exceptional cargo and reload vehicles. This unit is led by Lieutenant JG Zebediah “Zeddy” MacIntyre, who also leads the Artillery Group as a whole.
The second unit, “Pot-Shot’s Snipers” contains traditional Sniper Field Artillery Pieces, one recovered from operations on System – Heroditus, and three captured from a militia convoy on System – Dunkelheim. A pair of Type 74 “Buffalo” Hover Trucks are assigned as fire control vehicles to the unit, and a lance of Light Utility Trucks have been assigned to haul the field cannons and provide transport for their crews and munitions. Senior Trooper Edward “Pot-Shot” Farsaker acts as the unit leader, and takes his orders from “Zeddy”. Additionally, a pair of anti-aircraft quad-cannons (each essentially a simple trailer-rig mounting four AC/2s with rudimentary targeting equipment) and a pair of light utility transports to haul them, have been assigned to defensive operations with this unit. These weapons provide a very nice and simple fire-support to anti-air defenses.

Backstory
The unit is often seen as a placing company for unit assets that are acquired for security and defensive purposes. It has been structured into its basic components, and is basically complete in its organization. The unit’s “Militia” remains an important training force, and replacements to other units tend to come from these assets.
Cerberus Command, given its diversity of origins and equipment, is the most “officer-heavy” unit in the Dingoes, though this is mostly to provide a working structure for future expansion. New-hires and the return of several former 3rd Marik Militia leaders to positions of power among the unit, have made it very loyal to the Iron Dingoes command staff, while morale and skills should improve even further over time and with careful nurturing.
