Born to a winemaker and merchant from the town of Redfalls, Wavecrest, Lethis was born under the name Lucky Blue. As a young woman growing up in Wavecrest, Lucky had little hope of ever leaving the rocky cliffs of her home island. Passage on a ship would be near impossible, and there was nowhere for her to go. She spent her days gathering the grapes and olives of her family’s farm and bottling the wine for fermentation, wishing she could go with her father to distant lands.
When her father fell deathly ill and couldn’t transport a shipment of very important wine northward, she was ecstatic about the chance to prove herself. She offered to disguise herself as a man and pilot her father’s ship there and back, with the rest of the crew helping her with the finances and sending word back to the bedridden captain. He was nervous, but seeing her enthusiasm and recognizing an adventurous merchant spirit when he saw one, he let her try.
Unfortunately, Lucky did not live up to her name, and had absolutely no experience with ships, having never been allowed to pilot one before. Bad weather, rough water, and finally pirate attacks bombarded the ship. As the Lintha raiders slaughtered the crew, Lucky picked up a longbow from one of the dead pirates, and as she aimed it around, a Solar Exaltation waited to make her a hero. She panicked. She dropped the bow, grabbed an escape vessel, and fled the scene. Immediately crashing into the rocks and destroying the ship.
She woke up an unknown amount of time later on a beach, frighteningly near to the anchored raiding party. Horrified at what she’d done, she fled into the woods to hide and mope. Unfortunately, the same forest happened to be occupied by a Luminata, which stalked the horrified adventurer and ran her down. As it lowered its monstrous, tentacled horns towards her face, its voice whispered to her an offer.
Five days later, she marched back down to the beach, a new sinister glimmer in her twisted eyes. No longer was she Lucky Blue, cowardly merchant’s daughter. Now she was Letters that Hunt Souls, messenger for She Who Lives in Her Name.

She located the Lintha on the beach, hoping to use her newfound power to get some revenge. To her surprise, they seemed delighted to have her appear, and welcomed this new servant of their patrons. She would have fled again, but for a voice in her head telling her that these were her allies now, followed by another voice… eerie, yet motherly… urging her to go with them. She accepted, despite her suspicions, and found herself traveling to a Lintha outpost in the far west, near a partially-sunken first-age observatory just on the edge of sea reclaimed by the Wyld. The damaged and harrowed ships docked for repairs (how could there be so many storms in a row on such a short trip?) and Lethis was allowed to examine the ruins, following visions and memories from something she couldn’t quite remember precisely.
Finding an ancient and near-unreadable book in the ruins of the destroyed Manse, the Lintha prepared for one more journey (prepared for the worst) into a maelstrom in the Wyld Zone, which sent them blasting up out of an acid oasis in Cecelyne. With a sigh of relief, the Lintha bid Lethis fairwell and dove back into the vortex.
Alone with her thoughts for five days, Lethis became very well-acquainted with her new demonic passenger, valuing his company and his advice even more (though she hid it behind a veneer of sarcasm and back-talk). She reached the gates of the city with a better understanding of what her new magic was capable of, and what she could expect to learn from others. At the gate were two Luminata, who led her along a path both mathematically perfect and utterly straight to a temple in which were waiting her new mistress and her mistress’ heart, the Arrangement of Perfect Harmony. As Lethis was given her mandate and information, the two fixed up minor flaws in her body, “correcting” her vision and surgically augmenting her understanding of the Malfean reality.
She wandered the streets a bit, overwhelmed by the intensity of the sights and sounds relayed through her new eyes, wandering into a massive crowd in the middle of a particularly wide street. Here, even the jouten of several Yozi had stopped out of respect for their king, whose jouten was dancing in the middle of the street. It was the most glorious thing Lethis had ever seen. She could not approach him (who could?) but she swore that she would someday get to dance with him.
