If not, then much sorrow and many lives of men shall pass, until the Dúnedain arise and are united again.”
Thus spoke Malbeth the Seer to Araphant, King of Arnor before the birth of his son. Now the time of his ascendancy draws nigh, and many choices face the Heirs of Númenor. Which choice is the critical moment? How will it be known which is truly the less hopeful, in the face of such a prophecy? Or is it already too late?
Long has there been a tense and tenuous peace in Arnor. For over a century, they have contended merely with the occasional raid of goblins and savage tribesmen, while waves of armies marched upon Gondor in the South. Now, the orcs of Gundabad prowl once more through the hills of Rhudaur, and the King of Gondor lies dead with both his sons. A ray of hope yet shines in the North… but the days are turning dark.
Thank you to everyone who was following this campaign – it never reached its completion due to a number of factors. Mostly, though, I feel the failure was entirely mine – there were a number of things that occurred in ways I did not allow for, or have contingencies to deal with. I’d like to thank all of my players through both sections of the game. I may retool the game somewhat and begin working on a slightly more fleshed-out version of the original handout for distribution to players in a PBEM or web-based version. If that happens, I promise, everything will be up here on Obsidian Portal – likely including full logs of the play sessions.
