Bio
Oona was born to the well-established family of the von Berengarias in Kintargo, Cheliax. She showed promise from a very young age and was able to attend the best schools the city had to offer. Due to this, she has largely been insulated from the current affairs of the every day world. While a life of affluence would suit some, Oona has felt like a caged bird for as long as she can remember- her only escape from it was when she discovered Alchemy.
At 16, she attended a demonstration by the Universities Senior Alchemists (name/s TK) and was entranced. It became her life, much to her parent’s disapproval. They had suffered through her school years in the hopes of marrying her off in an advantageous match, but she shocked them all by declining it. Her older sister suspected Oona was involved with a student- and a peasant at that- but Oona denies this.
Oona applied to join the Alchemist’s Guild as a full member at 18- an unheard of thing, normally members apprenticed from 18 to at least 21 or more often older. She stunned the panel of guild members with her demonstration and combined with a recommendation from her professor, she was admitted to full rank. She quit her family’s house and was given a small room and access to the labs and library. She soon learned how easy life had been with her family money. It was a good thing she wasn’t interested in fashion or politics like her sister- she no longer had the money for either. But there were books…
After a particularly volatile ‘incident’ in the laboratory (this is where she picked up the nickname Blackthumb- although her thumb is now normal color), Oona was called in to the Guildmaster’s office and assigned to go on an expedition of investigation (of Mwangi?). In reality, her family had bought or manipulated her name onto the list. She was given a choice- travel to untamed wilderness, sailing for months in close proximity to complete strangers (and probably criminals), enduring all manner of hardship and trials or return to her family and obey their wishes.
She sailed the next day.
