Born in Nuln and orphaned at an early age, Marius knows little about his parents, who they were or what happened to them. What he does know was that he was left outside the Chapel-Academy of St Bosch (a famous orphanage dedicated to Verena, known for producing some of the finest scribes in Nuln) late on night. Brought up in amongst the faithful of Verna, Marius was given an education that few foundlings could ever hope for. He was a keen, bright and very promising pupil and the Priest that tend to the school would have looked for a rich patron act as a sponsor the Marius at a place at one of the Universities of Nuln, that was until the first manifestation of his magical talents.
One night a young Marius woke up screaming, with light streaming from his eyes, a burning light that almost set the dormitory ablaze. Had Marius been amongst more fearful and less educated people, there would have been every chance that he would have been dragged out of the academy and given over to the witch hunters. But priest knew what had occurred and were able to explain to the young and frighted Marius that he had the gift of magic and that he should not be afraid and they would do what they could to help him. The colleges of magic were contacted about the incident, and soon a Magister, by the name of Jurgen Voltz of the Collage of Light, came to collect him to take him to Altdorf.
Jurgen Voltz, quickly realised that like he, Marius had an affinity for the Wind of Light, Hysyh. Jurgen petitioned the Collage to become Marius’ tutor and took the young wizard under his wing. Marius’ potential has grown since coming to the colleges of magic, showing a great affinity for magic and wisdom beyond his years. The end of his apprenticeship is in sight, the Old World League was suggested to Marius by his mentor Jurgen, to be able to learn more about the world and put his magical talents to good use. He has also been given a mission by the collage to prove himself. He was been given an ornate lock-box (which has no keyhole or any obvious means of opening the box) and given a simple set of instructions. He was to take the box to the Laurelorn Forest, an ancient realm of the elven peoples, and give the box to their Queen.
