The Reunion Campaign

Copper "Bedowin" Of Ravenshore

A charismatic and deadly Mist Elf, a living paradox of optimism and paranoia.

Copper "Bedowin" Of Ravenshore

Description

Physical description: A Mist Elf, taller and broader than a typical elf, with cheekbones and facial features that are much more rounded. In conditions of poor visibility he could even pass for half elf or human. As far as mist elves are concerned Copper isn’t difficult to look at. His beautiful hypnotic green eyes compliment his signature copper tone skin and almost metallic hair. His build is athletic but not bulky, more like that of a professional dancer or gymnast than a football player or a wrestler. At a fresh 150 years of age Copper has only recently reached adulthood, yet behind his eyes he seems to hold an understanding and sadness of the world that makes him seem considerably older. This state of melancholy is countered by a chiseled boyish grin that is constantly full of passion and humor. The underside of his left arm contains ritual scarring given to him by his father, Conniculus Truleaf (Chancelor of War) , on his 32nd birthday. It reads “defender of the way”. Under his right arm it reads “ keeper of beauty”, his sister, Ellenway gave this scarring to him, on his 108th birthday. Copper gravitates toward wearing felts, leathers, and silks, and loves to mix nature browns and greens with royal purples and blues, as well as ebony blacks. Copper moves with a grace that is almost incomprehensible, and for someone that spends so much time in the wood his sense of hygiene, style, and posture are quite impressive.

Bio

Copper comes from a small woodland grove called Ravenshore, located on the regional peninsula of Aglarond in Faerun. Aglarond is part of Faerun’s “unapproachable east”, it is an area of powerful and mysterious magic. Aglarond is the nation that keeps the sinister red wizards of Thay from attacking the rest of civilized Faerun. Aglarond is ruled by Faerun’s most powerful sorceress Simbul. (more info on Algarland on pgs. 199-201 in Forgotten Realms book.) Many, many years ago, the mist elves or “daoine” of Ravenshore where asked to leave their woodland cairns in order to protect Aglorond from the dangers to the east. These ancient and giant elven warriors made all the difference in the world, bringing new battle tactics and powerful ancient magic to the front line. Through all the pitfalls of the seemingly endless war the mist elven army seemed unbreakable. Most mist elves credit this to the impeccable militaristic leadership of General Conniculous TrueLeaf, Copper’s father.
While at war, Conniculous met a ranger named Alara and named her his bride. Unable to return home, their twin children Ellenway and Bedowin were born and spent the first few years of their lives in the deserts of Thay. Virtually the only children amidst a sea of fighters, Bedowin and Ellenway were for the most part adopted by the whole Mist elven army. Conniculous, like most of the men under his service, paid much closer attention to his daughter Ellenway who even at a young age was quite the charmer. Bedowin on the other hand seemed to have an eye for trouble. Always wandering where he wasn’t supposed to or running off to take on the red wizards on his own. When a truce was finally called and the Mist elves returned to their cairns. Conniculous was named a hero and was elected to the position of Chancellor of War. Bedowin and Ellenway became Ravenshore’s youngest diplomats and it was hypothesized by many that they would lead Ravenshore to victory when the so-called truce inevitably ended. Years where spent trying to mold the children into the ideal leaders, rangers, and warriors. Alara’s passion for archery was forced on the children and they both grew to be formidable young warriors. Ellenway, however, far exceeded Bedowin in combat. Art was a very big part of elven schooling and Copper was far too distracted by culture, exploration, and philosophy, to give combat his full attention. In performing Bedowin found the praise and love he felt was so lacking in his life. This angered his father who found his son rebellious and unappreciative.
When Bedowin was at the brisk young age of 102. Ravenshore received a surprise visitor. An exiled drow elf named Blitzer surpassed the grove’s magical defenses and logged himself at the inn. Ravenshore welcomes anyone in that can pass its tests of strength, skill, and wisdom, but were very inhospitable to Blitzer as drow were supposed to be evil and powerful. The dark elf wandered in and out of town over the coming months, and eventually curiosity got the best of Bedowin. Bedowin befriended the drow, in hopes of learning stories of where he came from, and what brought him to Ravenshore. Blitzer admired Bedowin’s fearless curiosity and soon the two became good friends. Blitzer never spoke of his exile, or his present business in Ravenshore. But told Bedowin much about the lands to the west. He helped him craft a version of drow night armor, and taught him the drow style of fighting with a scimitar. Blitzer also started to take Bedowin into Algarond’s capitol Velprintalar, whenever he had business there. It was helpful to have a charismatic mediator when you are an unwelcome drow and Bedowin was fascinated by the cities people and the opportunity to exchange music and folklore. Bedowin became known to the townsfolk as “Copper”.
By the time Copper was 121 he was becoming quite the swordsman and musician. He had also begun helping Blitzer in his profession. Blitzer was a mercenary, hired by residents of the surrounding nations to sneak into Thay and locate and rescue their friends and relatives that had been taken into slavery by the red wizards. Blitzer had already freed many slaves, and combined with Copper’s charming influence, it was becoming easier and easier to find his objectives. The wizards, however, began to grow wise, and while on a nightly rescue the two unlikely comrades were ambushed. Copper was injured severely and the two barely escaped with their lives. Blitzer carried Copper back to Ravenshore were he could be nursed back to health after which the dark elf was soon after banished by Conniculous.
Copper’s actions infuriated both the leaders of the daoine community and all of Algarond. Simbul feared the raids might be seen as an act of war, threatening the truce she had tried so hard to maintain. Copper’s actions seriously damaged his family name and Conniculous came very close to losing his position in the nobility. Feeling he was a disappointment Copper felt he needed to try to leave Ravenshore as soon as possible. When he turned 130 he joined a group of envoys enlisted to travel the world to learn about the mysteries of the outlying world to report them back from time to time. Before he left his sister commended him for walking his own path and told him to not to be ashamed. She is now quickly working her way up the ranks of the army. Most of his time has been spent, singing and playing flute to the trees and the water.

The Helm campaign(brief synopsis)-

Quickly after reaching the islands Copper became steeply involved in a campaign to recover the helm of Sesyphis, a horrible and powerful magic item that had fallen into the wrong hands. Copper’s constnt optimism and passion would be tried rigourously during this phase of his life and he would ultimately end up jadded by a several impactful events begining with the capturing, tourturing, and crippiling of his twin sister by the drow of the underdark. There were also several moments where Copper’s percieved loved ones let him down on a number of occasions, wheather it being used by Lisuania Longmeadow(a troubled young wizard who he had begun a relationship with), being overstepped by Slatherin (who at the time was his closest companion who attempted to have articles stolen from him), decieved by a Luri Dimuri (a dwarven king who had become like a father figure to him), or beign betrayed by Blitzer (the drow friend from his youth with whom he had been reunited and ultimately seized the helm for his own benefit) In the end the helm was recovered but it left Copper a changed elf. He still remains optimistic that the world can become a place where good can flourish, but feels he needs to be as morally flexible as the forces of evil in order to completely vanquish it. He has decided to become a kind of monster in hopes that the next young bright eyed bard can experience a world of beauty.
