The Rolovathar (Rolo-vah-thar) family lived in a small elvish community outside of Sandpoint in the forests with several other elven families. Tithaefarason “Tithae” (Tee-thy-far-ahs-on) with his wife Meldamiriel “Melda” (Mehl-dah-meer-ee-ell) expecting their second child in the coming months. They had their first child Tawarthion “Tawar” (Tah-wahr-thee-on) a few years prior. The community was quiet and they traded among themselves for food and other supplies. The community was mainly hunters, trappers, leather artisans, and rangers. Some would venture out to the nearby towns to buy things at the stores and shops there; Tithaefarason was usually one of the people to go. He had wanderlust about him, his father Marcaunon “Marcau” (Mar-cow-nonn) did not approve of his son’s wanderlust, but understood that all supplies could not be made on hand and must be brought in from outside the community. On numerous occasions, Tithaefarason and his father Marcaunon have had many heated discussions about him wanting to leave with his family and move to the city for better opportunities and to learn the ways of the world outside of the forest.
A few months passed and a new child was born named Morfindien “Morfin” (More-fin-dee-ehn) meaning “Dark-haired” in the elvish tongue because of his full head of dark black as night hair he was born with. While it was a happy time for the Rolovathar clan, darker times were ahead, not just for them, but the entire community. Recent sightings of larger goblin tribes were seen moving into the areas and an influx of giants have also been reported. Small sightings at first, but growing in numbers as the months and years have gone by. This worried Tithaefarason and he argued with his father more and more about moving out as some of the others have, but respecting his father’s traditional stubborn wishes. The lands surrounding the forests had grown more and more dangerous for travel as passing traveling merchants, caravans, and travelers were robbed or even murdered for their precious cargo.
One day an elf returned to the community severely injured franticly telling everyone to run and flee they were coming. The town was in an uproar and a few of the families grabbed what they could and ran. Tithaefarason argued with his father one last time to leave this place. Marcaunon refused standing with those of the community that were staying to defend their homes. Tithaefarason cursing the stubbornness of his father left him there and grabbed his family and whatever supplies they could carry and left. The goblins and the giants wanting the riches and resources of this small elvish community attacked later that day. The battle was intense and fierce, but they lost. Only later did Tithaefarason realize that his father stayed there to fight so he may escape and live another day.
Years went by and Tithaefarason and his wife setup shop just on the outskirts of Sandpoint. Using his skills of being a ranger he made a living assisting travelers and others with navigating the outskirts of Sanpoint and its woods. He set up a small shop with his wife selling his animal hides from his hunting trips to provide for his family. Training his eldest son the tools of the trade and taking Morfindien along to learn as well, but he had a feeling that his youngest had a different path and destiny ahead of him seeing that same wanderlust in his eyes as he did and was not going to take that away from him.
Growing up Morfindien had a knack of getting into trouble some saying too smart for his own good. A quick learner and watching his father teach his brother how to make hunting traps, hunt, and the lay of the land. This rarely interested him, but it did distract him from normal everyday life when nothing was going on. He often also traveled with his mother to Sandpoint to buy supplies and sometimes dine at a local pub a treat he enjoyed and secret he and his mother kept. In addition, while in Sandpoint visiting other shops. In one such trip to the city, they stopped to see the oddities at the Turandurok Academy looking at the strange collection of trinkets that Headmaster Ilsoari Gandethus kept in his basement. Curiosity getting the better of him Morfindien took a small item, harmless in nature, but not without being seen by Gandethus, who did not say anything at the time.
Morfindien thinking he got away with murder was so happy he did not hesitate to show it off to his brother in private. It was a small twisted silver amulet with fiery red gems in in. His brother being a bit more honest told on him and Morfindien punished for his thievery. The next day Tithaefarason and Morfindien went back to town and returned the amulet to Gandethus. Ilsoari Gandethus with a laugh told Morfindien not to be too hard on the boy and even congratulated him on his fine work. Gandethus showed them both around the school and his entire collection exotic weapons, strange maps and monster trophies gathered during his adventuring days. Morfindien’s eyes so filled with joy, and wanderlust with all that he has seen begged to come back again just to look at everything again and hear more stories from Gandethus, when Gandethus offered that the boy could attend school here. Tithaefarason was at a loss for words, but he would have to speak with his wife.
The next fall, (which was only a few months away) Morfindien started to attend classes at Turandarok Academy. Morfindien divided his time at the academy and at home half the week there in the city and the other half at home over the next few years. He had left the academy when the Late Unpleasantness happened and returned after, but he wanted more. His wanderlust fully kicked in and he finally was of age to leave out on his own. His father seeing this had contacted his old friend from the community back in the day who he trained with Idhrenohtar “Idhren“ (Ee-threnn-oh-tahr) meaning “Wise Fighter”. If his son was going to strike out on, his own he would need to know how to handle a blade properly and to defend himself. Morfindien left later that week and started his training and to put his teachings and youthful energy to good use.
Morfindien or known as “Morfin” by his friends and for short returned home after some time his training complete for the most part. He knows that training could only cover so much he knew that he had to apply it out there in the world, but first he had to say hello to his family and friends who he had not seen for some time before he struck out for the road to what he called his time, “It’s Morfin Time.”
