The defining moment in Bragi’s short life (by Dwarven standards) was during a mining accident, in which several of his team were killed. In the dark, Bragi became aware. Aware of the gloom surrounding him, aware of the order of things, aware that you cannot outrun fate and death. Life and death, one completed by the other. Whether the Raven Queen spoke to him, or whether he was delirious from a wound to the head (as many of his family claimed), after he was rescued Bragi was a different dwarf.
In the weeks that followed, Bragi became more aloof from the Dwarven community and more obsessed with the mystery of death. He was as still a Dwarf, drinking ale with his friends and pulling his considerable weight in mining, but in his offtime Bragi could be seen delving into tomes on the nature of life and death. Eventually, Bragi came to a decision. Against the wishes of his family and tradition, Bragi entered into the service of the Raven Queen and took up the mantle of one of her Clerics.
Eventually, Bragi had to leave his mining community and decided to live life as an adventurer. In the finest traditions of She who is Fate, Bragi does not suffer prideful idiots well. This makes being around other Dwarves occasionally hazardous. Bragi has accepted his role in the world; dispensing justice on those who would upend the natural order. Bragi takes considerable offense with anyone who mixes up Necromancy, the evils of the Undead, and his service to the Raven Queen. He is quick to point out that such things are even more offensive to those of his order.
Bragi likes his ale and his food, and while his mind is supple, his body is not. He has Dwarven strength, but don’t ask him to do any stretching or try to jump across rooftops. He is pale, no matter how much sun he endures, and his bristly dark beard and hair gives him a permanent unkempt look. Don’t call him an emo-dwarf though, unless you want an axe to the head. Bragi is as gruff and humorous as any Dwarf and despite his calling, he enjoys life.
Bragi has a firm understanding of the world and how it works, but ask for details and Bragi gets a bit lost. He is a big picture Dwarf and hasn’t the time to get bogged down in mathematics, science or any other such folly. Those who dabble in such things are often trying to subvert their fate, or the fate of others, and that is an abomination to the Raven Queen.
