The Sovereign States

What If…

The Axis Powers had won World War II?

Well, in this super heroic role-playing experiment that we are preparing to embark on, they did just that. The inspiration for this alternate history comes from a novel by Sci-Fi genius Phillip K. Dick called, “The Man in the High Castle.” As with so many of his works, Dick poured pragmatic and sincere thought into it. In the story, we are given a glimpse into what 1962 could have been like if the Axis had won WWII. The result is a very interesting take on altered history, and one that is so heavily borrowed from here that we have to give props to the late Mr. Dick.

All that being said, our altered reality makes several changes to the flow of Dick’s timeline, and we extend it to the present (2012 +/-). A systematic breakdown of just how this world is different from our own will be explained within the campaign Wiki.

Our adventures will begin in the Sovereign States of America (SSA). The SSA consists of the pre-WWII American territory spanning the region lying between the Rocky Mountains and the west bank of the Mississippi River, and runs from the northern portion of pre-war Louisiana to the militarized southern border of Canada. The Sovereign States are essentially a patchwork of independent territories that function as a buffer zone between the Unified States, and the Imperial Japanese Colonies in and beyond the Rocky Mountains. Borders and allegiances have shifted regularly within the SSA over the past 65 years due to political manipulation as well as the indefensible nature of the flatland territories.

The SSA are lands riddled with corruption, crime and intrigue. The looming cold war between the Japanese Empire and the German Reich is most prominent here, and is the region’s worst kept secret. Covert agents and puppet politicians work tirelessly to ensure that the SSA never rises as a unified force.
