Born on a cold december night, Seth grew up in the shadow of his father, who was, in a sense, the village hero. The dragonblooded had long since abandoned the village, but few of the towns people took up arms and defended them against the plagues of the outside world. Hunters, soldiers, butchers, blacksmiths. The village had become self sufficient, thanks to one Letherian Eiderhart. Village head, and trainer of the soldiers.
Seth, born Setherian, had a sister named Lina, after her mother Rina, who was a fairly good botanist. Seth was told, time and time again, that it was his duty as an older brother to protect Lina. His parents said this, without knowing the implication of it.
Seth, who always hung out with her sister, had few actual friends in the village. The only one being the young daughter to the family next door, called Rena Tanheart. The three of them did everything together. From climbing trees, to practicing swords, hunting, messing with the locals. In a sense, things where very peaceful, aside from the monster sightings every now and again. Renas parents was killed in a monster attack, when the kids where 3, Rena 2 and Rina 1, respectively. So the Eiderhart family helped, as did much of the village, but Rena was fairly self sufficient at the age of 6, even.
There was that one night. When Rina turned 8, Rena was supposed to sleep over. How ever, she was ill, and the local doctor said she had to stay in her bed. So the family celebrated Rina at Renas’, and then went home to sleep. The mother staying with Rena, to take care of her. Leth, as he was most often called by family and friends, was recovering from a fairly bad wound he had sustained. So, even he did not detect the bandits as they broke in through a window. They attempted to slit his throat, but he was woken up, and was able to fend off the initial attack. The commotion woke up Seth, who took Lina with him, and ran (As he had been ordered to do, in-case there was an emergency.). He ran towards Renas house, to warn his mother. When he arrived, he was quickly pulled into some bushes, where Rena was hiding. It appears the bandits had raided her house as well.
When the dust had settled, it seems that the men trained by Leth, had been able to fend of the bandits, only just. There where many wounded, but only two dead. Letherian Eiderhart had been found over three bandits corpses. And Rina Eiderhart was found strapped up the wall, with a spear and a sword through her. But to Seth, the worst discovery, was that prior to him waking up. And arrow had slipped through one of the windows. And the sister he held in his arms, was dying slowly. She reached up for his face… And whispered: “Brother, stop the pain…”. In a moment of sanity, he took up his knife… And ended her pain, vowing to avenge them… The villagers saw this. Rena saw this. In the years that came, it seemed only Rena understood the pain and resolution that moment of sanity took.
The villagers helped both Seth and Rena as much as they could muster, in the years that followed. But they could never look Seth in the eye again. If that is because of what he did that night, or because of the fierce anger that had been awakened within him? Hard to say.
At the age of 16 he sets out. Having learned where the bandits may be held up. He was able to get in contact with the resistance group in the local area, that they where planing something big. What happens now is, as they say, history….
