The Wasteland, Book II
Preview
Three Travelers came together and began to do the holy work for a new religious movement. Its prophet, Elkas, taught that a new age was coming in which his god, Apolina, would appear and raise the dead, bringing balance to the Wasteland. All things would be made new. But the Travelers, all people, were tricked by Elkas. He had gone mad, and his god Apolina was an ancient war machine, raised up to destroy the world. Quickly realizing their folly, the Travelers cut down Elkas and disabled the war machine just in time.

So they thought.

Over the next five years, technology from the crater Apolina rose from began to spread. Eventually, might accumulated in the hands of just a few. There were brief power struggles between the former aristocrats, but in the end, only the strong emerged. Four warlords divided up the Wasteland, and an already oppressed, weakened society was tread down even further.

Playing

This game is a low-fantasy D&D campaign; it is a sequel to The Wasteland. A few rules to bear in mind:
  1. This is a Human-only world. Other races do not exist. However, different races may be chosen during character creation, to mix up the mechanics of gameplay.
  2. No magic. That means no magic-based classes, and no racial magic. Any exceptions must be approved by the DM, and given a plausible explanation for why it isn't actually 'magic'.
  3. There are many pantheons and deities, but in contrast to the usual high-fantasy game, no one really knows if they're listening, or if they even exist. Your character can have a patron deity, and they can even be particularly zealous for their religion… just don't expect any divine interventions.
Certain classes which normally rely on magic may be homebrewed or treated in such a way that "magic" is not being used. (For example, the Bard normally uses Arcane magic for his songs to affect others. If you desire to play a Bard, then maybe in this world his songs, instead of magically or supernaturally affecting others, simply affects them emotionally.) These following classes are openly allowed, but additional classes may be used if approved by the DM:
  • Ardent (Leader)
  • Barbarian (Striker)
  • Bard (Leader)
  • Fighter (Defender)
  • Hunter
  • Monk (Striker)
  • Ranger (Striker)
  • Rogue (Striker)
  • Warlord (Leader)
