My parents were always part of this town. Dad in the garrison and mom just being mom. This place is so boring since my run in with Liria. She’s opened my eyes to so much in such a short time. I’ll have to get out of here somehow, but those who leave never come back. I’ll have to remember to talk with mom or dad about that at some point soon. Daddy taught me how to use the sword. He was a good teacher too, being part of the town guard. Then most soldiers are good with a blade. His ability leaned more towards brute strength rather than finesse. I learned that one day out with a friend at the market. This elf, local I imagined at the time, though I didn’t know her, stumbles into me then challenges me to a dual for having disrespected her. Daddy always said never back down so I took up the nearest sword someone could offer. We crossed swords and really made a spectacle of ourselves. She was fast and her technique I had never seen ever before was flawless. Daddy’s brutish striking lessons did me no favours and it was only my ability to anticipate her next riposte that kept the dual close. Her superior training paid off though and soon I was watching the sword, my sword go flailing through the air. Beaten and dusty and with her sword leveled at my throat she chose not to kill me, but train me instead. Now I don’t think I’ll enlist, the brutish savagery of war is so, unappealing in comparison to the beautiful dance that a true blademaster can achieve.
